Working With Sanju Sir Was A Dream Come True For Me
Satyajeet Dubey, who has signed a three-film deal with Sanjay Dutt Productions, shares how working with the actor-producer was a learning experience for him
Even before Prassthanam released, Satyajeet Dubey had signed a three-film deal with Sanjay Dutt Productions. The actor played a negative role in the film, which was produced by the Munna Bhai MBBS actor’s production house. “The fact that Manyatta ma’am and Sanju sir trust me as a talent and actor, makes me feel extremely happy. Now finally people are noticing me and giving me the opportunity. There is another film we are working on. The shoot will begin in November,” says the actor.
Without divulging much about the project, he says that it’s a horror comedy. “The script is ready and now they will start working on the secondary cast,” he informs .
Ask him about the experience of working with Sanjay Dutt and he replies, “It was full of learning and love. He is full of warmth and is a very giving human being and co-actor. Sanju sir and I used to talk a lot and discuss about Dutt saab (Sunil Dutt), Sanju sir’s rapport with him. In fact, I picked up a lot of their relationship while playing the character. I have tried to imbibe a little.”
While shooting, Satyajeet used to give his suggestions too. “Sanju sir has got 40 years of experience. He never said, ‘Do this’, he would always say, ‘Try this and see if it works for you.’ It would work like magic. It was a dream come true for me working with Sanju sir.”
While Prassthanam got mixed reactions at the box-office, Satyajeet was praised by critics. The actor is happy with the reactions and says that it was a character he couldn’t relate to. “In the industry, we are judged all the time. A lot of people hate me after watching me the film and a lot of friends told me that it’s nothing like I am in real life, so it was a great compliment. When you are trying something so different and it works, it feels good,” he says, adding, “It could have backfired and people would have wondered what was I doing.”
An official remake of a Telugu film, Prassthanam also starred Sanjay, Ali Fazal, Chunkey Pandey, Jackie Shroff and others.
The actor, who made his Bollywood debut with Always Kabhi Kabhi in 2011, says that he is aware of the fact that there is no particular image that he has created because he hasn’t given a big solo hit so far. “An actor needs to be aware of how popular s/he is among the masses and their market value. I know where I stand. I am growing and still have to grow a lot and increase my fan base for people to know my name. Right now, I am at a stage where filmmakers can put me into any role,” he says.
Satyajeet is all set to return to TV after nine years with Maharaj Ki Jai Ho, a finite time travel series. He says, “It’s about a guy who is fun loving, quirky. There is a failed experiment because of which a hole has been created and he gets transported 5000 years back in time. He is stuck there and comical situations are created because of that.”
He says that unlike other shows, the makers of these shows had written episodes ready. “I found it extremely funny,” he says and adds that the reason he did not do television for so long was because he didn’t find anything exciting. “The primary television content is driven by daily soaps and I cannot relate to them. If I can’t watch something, how can I do it? I can’t find any creative satisfaction. As an actor, you want to reach out to different audience,” says Satyajeet who will also star in a web series, which is yet to be formally announced.
