#TomCruiseBirthdaySpecial : Desirable at 56

Tom Cruise is not just an action hero; he is the gorgeous, good looking, kick-ass, sincere actor who does his own stunts, fights his own battles and continues to charm us even after 35 years and 35 movies in Hollywood.

He has been nominated thrice for an Academy Award and won three Golden Globe Awards and you may not know it or accept it, but we all love the cocky and charming Thomas Cruise Mapother IV (that’s the real name of Top Gun actor!)

As he turns a year older today, here area a few reasons why we love him. You can also binge watch on some of his best works — Oblivion, Edge of Tomorrow, Rock of Ages, Interview with the Vampire and Magnolia — all day (11 am-9 pm) on Sony Le PLEX HD.

He’s man pretty
Time and again, Tom has tried to drive you away by mussing up his good looks: an eye patch in Valkyrie, a beard in Born on the Fourth of July, even a fat suit in Tropic Thunder. But at the end of the day, his strong chin, flashy smile, and coiffed hair always shines through.

He’s not afraid to make fun of himself
You like a guy who can laugh at himself, right? Well, Tom does that repeatedly via goofy cameos as a sleazy agent in Tropic Thunder, Hollywood’s version of Mike Myers in Austin Powers in Goldmember, and an over-the-top motivational speaker in Magnolia.

He knows how to woo a woman
His marriage to Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes is proof that Tom knows how to impress a girl!

His accents are so bad that they’re good
Tom may be terrible at accents, but that’s part of what makes him great.

At 5.7’,  he’s a real action star
He may have to stand on an apple box to punch his opponents, but once he’s on that box, watch out. He’s anchored some of the biggest action movies ever — Mission: Impossible, Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Edge of Tomorrow. He does it without projecting a short-man complex. And when it comes to hanging off buildings, like in Mission: Impossible III, having the actual star of the movie putting his life at risk sells danger (and tickets) in a way a double can’t.

He’s the cocky bad boy you want (to be)
Every woman wants him; every man wants to be him. From a self-involved sports agent in Jerry Maguire to a self-absorbed pilot in Top Gun, Tom’s characters warm up thanks to the love of a woman. That said, being a rogue is what makes him so cool in the first place.

The guy can act
Being a movie star would be enough, but what really makes you love Tom is that he’s also a legitimate actor. He’s been nominated for innumerable awards, and roles in Born on... , Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia earned him Oscar nominations.
