The most-talked-about biopic on the invincible activist, Malala Yousafzai, was launched on the birthday of the Nobel peace prize laureate on Thursday. The film titled, Gul Makai chronicles the story of Malala, the courageous Pakistani activist who defied Taliban.
Directed by Amjad Khan and produced by Sanjay Singla and Preeti Vijay Jaju, the feature is currently in post-production and is scheduled to release in the latter half of the year.
The riveting biopic recounts the journey of Malala from her days in the Swat Valley to her winning the Nobel peace prize. Shot extensively in Kashmir and Bhuj, it features (late) Om Puri, Atul Kulkarni and Divya Dutta, who essay the roles of her parents. Reem Shaikh plays the title role.
“Cinema is a medium of being able to cause change for the better and through our feature, we want to be able to do that in every way we can. The first day box office will be donated to the Malala fund for the various initiatives it carries out,” says director Amjad Khan.
