Sweat with Glam

Sweat with Glam

So you want to look good, even while working out? Well, you don’t have to wait until you’re fit for that. What you wear and carry with you, will play a big role in this.

While working out, people often focus on the equipment that they are using, keep a track of the pace at which they are moving and so on but give very little attention to the clothes they are wearing.
Choosing the right type of clothes for your indoor or outdoor workout is directly linked to how well you perform.

We chat with a few experts from established brands to find out what they have to offer to fitness freaks so that they look good while sweating it out.

Carry it in style
What should your gym bag hold?
Sheetal Shah, founder, Core Pilates, says that while running in and out of gyms, it is important to carry all your essentials together in an organised manner. “It all starts with the right size of a gym bag that can actually hold all of your things in place,” says Shah.

She also points out that if you have you gym bag ready and packed at all times, you are in a way motivated to pick it up and make your way to the gym. The bag doesn’t need to contain just regular stuff like hair bands, extra pair of socks and napkins. “Start with packing a water bottle, deos, sanitisers, toiletries, sweat towels, dry bags, post-workout snacks and an extra clean pair of clothing,” says Shah.

She also suggests carrying your headphones, armbands and gloves — depending on the type of workout you opt for — in your bags. Talking about how to select a bag, Shah says a pop-colour never hurts anyone, and having a nice fun looking bag in the gym is always a good thing. People feel happy looking at a good looking bag.

Shah recommends ultra-chic bags that are sized according to your needs so that you don’t buy an over-sized one. They look clumsy and are uncomfortable to carry. If you  have a gym bag stocked and ready to go, it is harder to make excuses to skip a workout session.

Riot of  colours
Esha Singh, general manager Emerging Markets, Myprotein, says that fabrics that are made from polyester or nylon yarns are usually lightweight, very good at sweat wicking and they dry quickly.  All in all they are comfortable to wear for intense workouts. “It’s important to get workout clothes that you feel comfortable before you start exercising,” says Singh.

However to look your absolute best, Singh suggests wearing a range of bright colours and patterns. People can also opt for products with mesh, laser cut or panelling detail as they add a bit of glam to the outfit. MyProtein offers both men’s and women’s clothing and accessories. Singh says that their clothing is designed to provide support for exercisers while also following seasonal trends so that your workout wardrobes are fashionable.

“We offer a variety of collections including our bestselling Power, Shape Seamless, Dry-Tech Infinity and Form collections, as well as other training and lifestyle pieces,” she explains.

Singh points out that most of the people play it safe when it comes to workout attire because of which they usually wear black on black. “With newer options making their way into the market, we suggest adding pops of colour to make a dark outfit more vibrant,” says Singh.

Talking about how people can accessorise their look, Singh says depending on the workout, caps or snapbacks could complement your style. “A bag and towel are also reliable accessories that get you to and from the gym easily and keep you prepared when moving between different workout machines,” Singh adds.

“We encourage customers to follow the wash care instructions inside the garment in order to prolong its life. At the end of its useful life, we recommend that garments are recycled as they can often be processed to be turned back into new yarns. This responsible, circular lifecycle cuts down the amount of new (or virgin) plastic being used. A lot of our gym clothing has elastane yarns incorporated into the knit or weave of the fabric which allows for a close fitting garment that will move and stretch with the body whilst working out. This means that a full range of movements and exercises can be performed without restriction,” she concludes.

Do it in Denim
Denims are our go-to choice when we really cannot make up our mind while putting together an outfit, and why not? A pair of well-fitted denim trousers paired with a comfortable shirt or tshirt and sneakers looks smart and is also comfortable to wear.

Spykar, India’s leading fashion denim brand has a new range of athleisure denims — Gymjns, said to be the first-of-its-kind athleisure denim. “The denims have been designed for the outrageously stylish fitness enthusiast. This is slated to be the next evolution in denims as it offers a ‘4-way dynamic stretch’ and ‘ergonomic construction,’ making it the first-ever denim that can be worn for workouts,” says Abhishek Yadav, design head, Spykar Lifestyles.

He explains that this pair of clothing was designed keeping in mind the demand for something cool, durable and versatile to match the fast-paced life of a millennial. “It is the perfect denim for the gym and outside too,” exclaims Yadav.

With Gymjns, which is available in 18 styles for men and women, they are offering the user unrestricted freedom of movement. Yadav points out that this denim is ideal for those who like to workout as it is super comfortable and stretchy with a great fit and sporty styling.

Free movements
One of the reasons you must opt for comfortable clothes while working out, is because even the good quality outfits can constrain your range of movements. Pallavi Barman, operations and marketing head at HRX, points out that clothes should be worn to enhance your focus on your workout regime. She suggests opting for functional detailed clothes that will ensure optimal performance even under the most demanding conditions. Talking about the collection that HRX has to offer, she says that the brand offers clothes that are designed keeping in mind, body mapping, uniquely engineered jacquard panels for targeted ventilation and breathability. “High-lament polyester yarn which is used in these products ensures comfort while the jacquar panels help in ventilations and moisture management,”adds Barman.

People should choose seamless clothes because they allow distraction-free movement. “You need to be mindful while selecting clothes. You must wear fabrics that not only move with you but also lift, sculpt and contour your body while keeping you dry. Breathable, sweat-wicking fabric keeps you cool and dry because of which you will be at ease while working out,” she says.
