Subramaniams to perform with Orqueta Sinfonica de Castilla y Leon

The Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival (LGMF) 2020, comes to Pune with Orqueta Sinfonica de Castilla y Leon. The concert which is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, is titled ‘Tribute to Mahatma’. It will be held on January 8, at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch.

Talking about the festival, violinist L Subramaniam says, “My father, Professor V Lakshminarayana, was my mentor and guru and the most influential person in my life. He was responsible for making the violin a solo instrument and not just an accompaniment to the vocalist. At a time when listening to non-Carnatic music was considered taboo, my father encouraged us to broaden our horizons and appreciate music from around the world. He went out of his way to take us to live performances. He wanted us to gain perspectives from around the world to ground ourselves better in our own music and take our art to a global platform. The best way to honour my father’s memory is to take his vision to the world. Viji and I started the LGMF with the idea of bringing renowned artists across genres and cultural backgrounds on to one stage.”

“The LGMF is more than just a music festival, it is an opportunity for the future generations to learn from maestros and carry forward their legacy. It is a chance to watch live performances by extraordinary musicians from around the world from the comfort of their hometown,” adds the founder/director of the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival.

The LGMF’s ‘Tribute to Mahatma’ has been hosted by L Subramaniam, Kavita Krishnamurti and Vishwakarma University.

About the concert
The Part I will feature G Holst Saint Paul suite, J Turina La oración del torero, Spring Rhapsody, and Part II will have Vaishnava Jana to, Raghupati Raghav, Jo Tum Todo and Nadapriya Concerto.

Nadapriya is composed by Dr Subramaniam for violin solo, Indian percussion, wood winds and strings.

Spring Rhapsody composition is based on many different South Indian classical ragas and changing rhythmic cycles, derived from South Indian tala systems. The harmony, which is derived from the ragas, enhances the Indian flavour and mood.
