Strive for a healthy lifestyle

Fitness isn’t just about how you look but it has a lot to do with how you feel from within. Mallika Rathod, a 24-year-old multitasking yogi, and captain at Fitato, a fitness tech startup, trains  and help people attain physical as well as mental fitness. 

She works out across the city and loves fitness activities which are unique, intensive and fun. According to her, lifting the bar above your chin, running five miles and having abs to show is not fitness. “To me, my mental health, the environment around me, and the well-being of my body is important,” says the young fitness expert. 

Rathod believes that fitness in the truest sense requires flexibility, sustainability and a holistic approach. She believes, “A simple way of looking at fitness is the ability to be strong, flexible, happy and comfortable in anything and everything you do and there are multiple ways of achieving this.” 

Trying out different activities and switching things up is an interesting way of being active while having fun. “While yoga is my passion and I find time to practise it everyday, I also need variety.” Some of the most enjoyable workouts, according to Rathod, are anti gravity yoga, speed fitness, body conditioning, resistance band sessions, step up cardio and more. 

However, Rathod doesn’t confine her fitness regime to only gym exercises, she believes in exploring more in the outdoors as well.  She says, “As part of my holistic approach to fitness, I also go on treks, engage in rock climbing sessions and fitness parties.” 

When asked how fitness could be incorporated into daily schedules, she says, “While clean and healthy eating is an important part of maintaining a balance, blocking out the negativity and meditating to attain inner peace is also a vital part of fitness.” 

She advocates the idea of a wholesome lifestyle change where the focus shouldn’t be on just losing weight. She stresses that to bring healthy changes to your life, you don’t have to make monumental changes,but little steps also count. Suggesting a few simple ideas that are extremely doable and can be quick additions to our hectic schedules, Rathod advises, “It honestly takes very little to be in shape and have a healthy lifestyle. Changing small aspects of your routine is the key to it. Instead of living monotonously, use your idle time creatively. Attend a martial arts session, hike to a fort, drink a smoothie or simply go for a run around your neighbourhood.”
