State of the art

State of the art

In a white sherwani, Ivanka Trump, looked ethereal, as she, along with her father, Donald Trump, visited Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, on Tuesday morning. It was the second day of US President Donald Trump’s state visit to India.

If you are wondering who designed Ivanka’s classy ensemble, here’s a clue: Remember the easy-breezy colourful dress that Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, wore during her visit to India in 2016? She looked super comfortable in the dress while she enjoyed playing cricket. That dress was from ace designer Anita Dongre’s Summer 2016, Love Notes Collection. Anita has aced it again! With Ivanka’s sherwani, she has caught fashionistas’ attention. In the past, Anita has designed for several political celebrities who have visited India including Queen Mathilde of Belgium; Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, First Lady of Canada; and Hillary Clinton, former First Lady of the USA.

Speaking of Ivanka’s dress, Anita says, “The sherwani is made out of handwoven silk from Murshidabad, West Bengal. It is timeless, and such a classic. We created this style 20 years ago and it’s amazing to see how beautifully relevant it is even today. A powerful, standout silhouette, a sherwani carries the same charisma in absolutely any colour but my personal favourites are the evergreen blue, white and black.”
