Spirit of the times

Spirit of the times

Last week, the song Spirit from The Lion King-inspired album The Gift, lifted our spirits. Now, Beyoncé has released the music video and viewers have been super-liked it.

While Spirit is a beautiful gospel-pop ballad which is all about being ready to embrace your destiny, the video takes things to another level. The video opens up with men singing in Swahili — depicting The Lion King’s African roots and features not just Beyoncé against the breathtaking background of the Havasu Falls in the Havasupai Reservation, but also Blue Ivy Carter — Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s seven-year old daughter — who makes a special appearance sitting next to her mom in an amazing scene.

The video came in a few hours after it was revealed that the pop star’s Netflix special, Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé, scored six Emmy nominations.

Fans were quick to tweet to Queen Bey congratulating her and letting her know how moved they were by the video that she released. A netizen tweeted, “A visual indeed. A true queen who embraces her culture and colour. The last line of the song was meant for her — The Great I Am.”
