Sonam Kapoor gets trolled for Pakistan comment

Sonam Kapoor isn’t new to social media trolling. The actress gets trolled every now and then for giving statements, which do not seem to go well with netizens. On Sunday, she was slammed by social media users for feeling heart broken as her critically acclaimed film Neerja did not release in Pakistan. The actress also said that her roots are from Pak.

During an interview to BBC, Sonam said, “As an artist, you want to be represented everywhere and you want your work to be shown everywhere. Neerja, although based on a true story, wasn’t shown in Pakistan because the plane landed in Karachi and the hijack took place there. It didn’t in anyway show Pakistan in a negative light at all, but the fact that they didn’t show the film there was really heartbreaking for me.”

The actress who will be next seen in The Zoya Factor along with Dulquer Salmaan further said during the interview that she has roots in Pakistan and a strong fan following to. “I have a huge Pakistani following and my two best friends are Muslim and half-Pakistani. I am half-Sindhi and half-Peshawari. So, it’s heartbreaking to see that part of my culture is something that I can’t explore because of this,” she said, adding, “It’s heartbreaking to see where the situation has landed right now but I am very patriotic. So, I think for me now it is better to keep quiet and let this pass because even this too should pass, I think. Our countries were one country like 70 years ago, and the fact that there is so much divisive politics at play is really heartbreaking.”

As soon as the video got released on social media, netizens slammed for her views. While many called her anti-national, others questioned her decision to leave her roots in Pak and come to India.

Sonam got back to trollers and tweeted, “Guys, please calm down and get a life. Twisting, misinterpreting and understanding what you want from what someone has to say, isn’t a reflection on the person who says it but on you. So self reflect and see who you are and hopefully get a job.”

“I love my country but for some of you — and you’re the bigots, not me — I become anti-national only because I ask questions or choose to be critical. Listen to the national anthem - recall the line you heard as kids, ‘Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Issai..’” she issued a statement and many questioned her lack of knowledge about the national anthem.

“This dumb piece of sh*t don’t even know that there is no phrase like “Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Isai” in our national anthem and she’s giving her nonsense opinion on the serious issue like Kashmir,” a user said. “Why she leave her roots and came in India because she knows reality about Pakistan, #SonamKapoor Shame on you are definitely anti national,” another wrote.

“It’s an absolute shame and disrespect to our soldiers who are sacrificing their lives for us to stay safe and live our dreams..@sonamakapoor,” a user said. “Sonam has roots in Pakistan but ask her, why she had to leave her roots and come to India? Actually, this kind of xxx*** liberalism is observed more among the families who migrated to India post Partition. Amartya Sen is another example. #SonamKapoor,” a user further vented.
