Sing!

Sing!

Patrons let their hair down and sang their favourite songs at AXN Karaoke Nights at The Irish House

On a Thursday night, beating the Nagar Road traffic, people made it to The Irish House, at Pheonix Marketcity, for a karaoke session hosted by AXN Karaoke Nights. The event was to promote the popular American reality show titled The Voice. Participants were encouraged to sing songs by the judges on the show — Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Jennifer Hudson, but they were allowed to choose any song by any artist. By the time the event was over, patrons walked out of the venue with a bag full of goodies from AXN, and a happy feeling that lingered on.

It took a while to break the ice. Everyone was looking at each other, waiting for someone to go ahead and sing the first song so that the others could follow. But then one girl was a sport. Bhagyashree Jha grabbed the mic to sing a song dedicated to someone special. And what better way of expressing her feelings than through John Legend’s All of me? After she made the audience think of their ‘someone special’ and sing along softly, she was applauded for her honest, soulful rendition.

While the men sat around contemplating whether to participate in this fun activity or not, women seemed to take charge. Anu R chose to sing one of Britney Spears’ earliest hits, Oops!...I Did It Again. Her performance ended with whistles and excited applause. Next up, Rupali Ria sang a current favourite of everyone in the audience, Charlie Puth’s We don’t talk anymore. She was followed by Shurti Sridutt who took the challenge to voice one of Adele’s most powerful songs, Set fire to the rain.

What brought the house down was a surprise performance by Milind Shegokar, who represented India at the World Karaoke Championships. He sang a couple of songs, a mix of old and new hits, but all very entertaining. The hosts Farhad Patel and Anita Matai kept the crowd encouraged to participate and sang a few hits themselves.
