Shine like a star

Shine like a star

Diamonds are forever. They truly are. If you want a tiny sparkle or a little shimmer on you, you know you don’t have to look beyond diamonds. With the season of love here, is there a better time to sport a piece of diamond? Perhaps not. This Valentine Day, bedazzle your loved one with this sparkling precious stone and make it an extra memorable occasion.

Rajesh Tulsiani, creative head and director, Rajesh Tulsiani Fine Jewellery, gives you the lowdown on the latest trends in diamond jewellery and how to sport the minimal look, which is in vogue these days.

What’s in vogue
Tulsiani says that among the trends that will be a big hit this year are diamond hoops and statement diamond rings. “Several celebrities can be seen sporting them so they are likely to be in vogue. Apart from these trends, the market is re-witnessing the demand for long diamond chains as they effortlessly add grace to any ensemble and occasion. Detachable jewellery is also popular with those who are inclined towards multi-purpose and practical jewellery pieces for frequent rendezvous, and something that is not too heavy for any occasion,” he says.

Diamonds don’t need to be over the top to catch all the attention. Even the smallest sparkle will turn heads. In fact, many women are opting for the minimal look.

To ace the look, Tulsiani suggests choosing the eternal classic diamond studs that are perfect for any occasion. “Even layered diamond chains are great for a minimal look. Tennis bracelets are something that women are opting for lately. Tennis bracelets are nothing but a flexible gold bracelet that features one or multiple rows of diamonds. This piece of jewellery gets its name from the famous tennis player Chris Evert who first wore them during the US Open match against Wendy Turnbull. Design-wise, these bracelets have  a symmetrical arrangement of diamonds. Nowadays, there are lots of variations available for this type of jewellery, as there are different types of settings, thicknesses, precious metals and colours of precious stones. Tennis bracelets are also called eternity bracelets that are available in adjustable sizes,” says Tulsiani.

Talking about colours that will be a hit this year, Tulsiani points out that since the Pantone colour of the year is classic blue, customers are likely to gravitate towards this tone. “Blue sapphires, blue spinels, even deeper blue aquamarines are going to be popular this year, along with emeralds and rubies which shall maintain their share of demand,” he adds.

Make it multipurpose
Usually, women have different jewellery pieces for different occasions, however, multi-purposing is in vogue. Tulsiani says that your office wear can often double up as elegant evening wear. “Office wear and elegant evening wear calls for a minimal jewellery look, so one can simply pair a long diamond chain with a pendant along with a two-finger diamond ring for an apt look that hits the dual purpose,” says Tulsiani. He suggests pairing stackable bracelets with diamond hoops for an easy transition from office to an elegant evening look.

Upcycling
These days, women are more inclined towards wearing jewellery than just think of it as an investment and keep it away in lockers. Hence, upcycling in jewellery has started taking place a lot now.

“At Rajesh Tulsiani Fine Jewellery, our artistic approach is what makes us stand out from our competitors. Our design is our USP, therefore while upcycling, we try to keep the design modern and at the same time, we make sure that the true essence of the jewellery is not lost,” he says.

Handle with care
If you want any jewellery piece to last long and still look new, it is extremely important to handle it with care. Tulsiani points out that taking care of diamonds is important if the wearer wants to keep them shiny and sparkly. “The basic rules are to avoid any contact of cosmetics, perfumes with diamonds, as this contact can make them cloudy and may lead to loss of shine,” he says.

Taking care of these timeless pieces is easy, it’s not rocket science. The designer suggests cleaning diamond pieces at home with a soft cloth. For best results, one must clean them at regular intervals which can help maintain the glint.
