A first of its kind, the collaboration between a global school and an Indian musician aims to nurture and mentor upcoming talent in the field of Music across GIIS’ 21 campuses world over.

The pandemic has bought about a lot of changes in our lives. Be it from the way we work to the way we live; everything has seen a drastic shift. Online mode is the new way to go.

One of the major industries experiencing a drastic shift in their modus operandi is that of education. Shifting away from the traditional classroom method, students and teachers have recently been adjusting to the new normal.

Keeping in trend with the new way of life, Global Indian International School (GIIS) has designed a truly innovative curriculum, keeping in mind the need for imparting holistic education and overall development of their students.

Adding an extra edge to their mission, the GIIS has now collaborated with one of India’s finest musicians – Shekhar Ravjiani to launch the GIIS and Shekhar Ravjiani School of Music.

A first of its kind, the collaboration between a global school and an Indian musician aims to nurture and mentor upcoming talent in the field of Music across GIIS’ 21 campuses world over.

As a part of the collaboration, Ravjiani will be hosting one-on-one mentoring sessions with the students of GIIS through an online medium.

Sharing insights about the endeavour, in an exclusive interview with Sakal Times, Shekhar of the Vishal-Shekhar fame, said, “I was invited for a masterclass session at GIIS, Singapore and after watching the students perform, I was highly impressed by the level of skill set. The students were incredibly talented with their singing and playing an instrument.”

“The aim is to share what I have learned in my career, my learnings and to take their art forward. To ensure that every budding artist reaches their full potential,” he added.

The musician explained that the idea stemmed from the willingness to help interested students attain their maximum potential.

Explaining the way forward, he added, “A need-based learning module which will be customised for each student according to their strengths and weaknesses. The curriculum will concentrate on the benefit for the students, and we will make sure that we try and cater to the students’ requirements. Improvement areas will be highlighted in a timely fashion so that we can work together.”

Stressing on their innovative technique of nine-gems technique, Atul Temurnikar, the co-founder and chairman, Global Schools Foundation (GSF) said, “In addition to academics, one of the board members Mr NR Narayana Murthy had suggested to clearly define what is our idea of holistic education; hence we created a framework of nine-gems which articulates the development aspects in nine different areas of student excellence.”

These nine areas of development include skills like leadership, innovation, ethics and values, community service and much more. The school has incorporated over 42 different skill studio and programs to make learning a holistic experience.

“Visual and performing arts is one of the gems that we work on in addition to sports and personality development. Under performing arts, we have music, dance, and drama. For music when we had these various interactions with Mr Shekhar and had the common passion and goal that looked beyond giving the students an articulate education in music and building upon their strengths,” explained the co-founder.

Talking about the new normal, Temurnikar expressed that online learning will become a major part of our lives with online conferencing at our disposal. But offline training surely has its perks. While sitting with the students, a teacher can analyse and judge techniques and skills better. The chairman confessed that after attending an online session, he was convinced of its accuracy.

“The next step is to have Blended Learning which is to allow both physical and virtual learning facilities. The learning is definitely going to expand; technology gives you the amplification of taking it beyond the set parameters. We believe that with GIIS and Shekhar Ravjiani School of Music, we will be able to set new benchmarks,” he added.

Sending out a personal message to all the aspiring students of GIIS and Shekhar Ravjiani School of Music, the musician and composer said, “We are excited to offer the first of its kind offering to online music learning, and this has never happened before. We are going to make the most out of this, and this is just the start to many such collaborations in the field of music for them to look up to.”
