Say hello to the new Pune: Taking flight

One of the fastest growing cities,  Pune has been making rapid progress towards a smooth transport system. Daily commute has become a lot more easier. For instance, the introduction of cabs and electric buses have made travelling more convenient. Metro service, which is under construction, is likely to ease traffic congestion on roads.

Taking it a notch higher Blade India, a US-based urban air mobility service, recently kickstarted their operations in the city. By leveraging its technology platform, strategic lounge network and its partnerships with leading aviation operators, Blade has introduced a one-of-a-kind fly-by-the-seat experience to Mumbai, Pune and Shirdi. The 35-minute flight offers a quick and easy experience to commuters who otherwise spend four-to six-hours on the expressway.

The air mobility service is a joint venture between the US-based aviation startup Blade Urban Air Mobility, Inc (BLADE) and Hunch Ventures. Blade India allows fly-by-the-seat service that gives passengers an opportunity to access convenient and luxurious travel. Blade lounges are located at convenient urban heliports; thus, a passenger can avoid the stress and rush of negotiating large commercial airports. These lounges are designed to the same specifications as Blade’s iconic New York City, Los Angeles and Miami lounges. India-based lounges will provide excellent customer service and help passengers achieve a relaxed journey before, during and at the end of their trip.

Karanpal  Singh, founder, Hunch Ventures, says, “As India develops and grows, the country’s frequent flyers will require options of travel that offer speed, convenience and comfort. Across the world, helicopter services have taken wing. We are thus proud to bring this much-needed service to the country with  Blade India. I am confident that our efforts will be met with enthusiastic support. We will look to rapidly scale our offering across all major metros and B towns, even those centres which are underserviced. The luxury of convenience offered to the customer truly differentiates our service.”

“India’s major cities are consistently ranked as the most congested in the world,” says Rob Wiesenthal, CEO of Blade. “In addition, as a given the airports are over capacity, thus the experience at these centres of transport can be demanding. By broadening consumers’ access to on-demand aviation, we can start to mitigate these issues, while attempting to build the foundation for Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) services tomorrow.”
