Of passions and dreams

His love for Marathi films led Pune-based youngster Akshay Girme to set up Ad Media, a company that is contributing to the growth of the regional cinema. Ad Media is a digital media company focused on handling social media accounts of Marathi celebrities, and provides consulting services as image consultants to celebrities, does social media marketing, brand building and advertising and sms marketing. “I wanted regional cinema to reach a lot of people especially in the time of social media, so through my digital marketing skills I started promoting the Marathi cinema industry giving regional cinema a wider reach globally,” says Girme.

He strongly believes that the promotions for Marathi films are not done well mostly because of budget constraints leading them to be sidelined and overshadowed by the big budget Hollywood and Bollywood movies. “Marathi movies are unable to attract a large number of audience because of the lack of promotions. This hugely affects business. Being a Maharashtrian myself and for the love of my state and Marathi cinema, I decided to come forward and help improve the condition and the business of Marathi cinema through digital media,” he shares.

Girme, who now is into digital marketing, completed his 10th Boards after which he decided to drop out of school. “Despite not having a fancy college degree, today, I have an experience of more than seven years in the field of digital media marketing,” he says adding that he has never taken any education or course related to Digital Marketing but has gained knowledge through self-learning and experience.

Born and raised in a middle-class family in a small village of Maharashtra, Girme comes from a very humble background. His father worked in a bank as a security guard and wasn’t able to afford him a higher education. But Girme was determined and committed to his dreams. “I knew no one would come to help me or fund my education, so I had to do it on my own,” he says adding that he started saving his pocket money and went to a cybercafe every day to learn different things about computers and technology. “My interest in digital media marketing grew and I found out that this is what I want to do and create a place for myself,” he says adding, “I want to inspire the youth and tell them that even if there are hardships in your life, it does not mean that it’s the end. A little bit of dedication and passion can help you lead a life that you have always dreamt of and earn yourself a respectable living.”

Talking about advertising and promotions in the age of social media, Girme says that in today’s world people spend most of their time on mobile phones and computers. The entire world is using the digital space more than using the traditional ways. “That surely gives the new-age media a scope to boom and take over the entire advertising and promotions because of which people who aspire to become entrepreneurs have a great chance as they can start, promote and advertise their business online without investing a lot,” he says adding that social media marketing is especially helpful for small businesses.
