Never Give Up

Never Give Up

Some people stop at nothing. They overcome every kind of hurdle and bounce back with enormous energy. Tanisha Roy is a perfect example. From a corporate employee to Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide 2019 finalist, her journey is not only glamorous but also inspiring. Her life took a turn when in 2018, Roy was diagnosed with pleomorphic adenoma, a form of tumour, in her salivary gland and she had to undergo surgery. But this journey taught her many lessons and she was determined to emerge a winner.

Roy, who now proudly wears the scars of her battle with cancer, decided to participate in an international beauty pageant. To prepare for the contest, she did regular workouts and followed a diet to lose weight. All her efforts paid off when she was chosen as one of the finalists of Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide 2019. The finals will be held in Greece this month, on October 18, and she hopes to make India proud.

Of the 30,000 participants from 20 countries, Roy is among the 175 finalists. “Post surgery, I had put on a lot of weight due to bed rest. The worst part was that I was body-shamed behind my back which led to major depression but finally after  six months of bed rest, I said to myself, ‘Enough is enough’. I woke up as if from a deep sleep and realised that I have the power to create my own reality and started following a strict diet and went to gym daily for three hours,” she says.

Undergoing medical treatment can take a toll on your physical and mental health. When Roy was diagnosed with cancer she was obviously stressed. “I know what giving up feels like but I was determined to see what happens when I don’t,” says the braveheart adding, “You should not allow unhealthy emotions to control your mind because a happy, strong peaceful mind keeps all the negativity away and helps you achieve a Zen-like state amidst the chaos.”

In February this year, she got a call to register and audition for a beauty pageant even though she had never done any kind of professional modelling before. That said, she was comfortable in front of the camera. So she auditioned for Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide 2019 beauty pageant, season 9, in Bengaluru.

Talking about her preparation for the big day, Roy points out that she has been working on her soft skills to feel more confident, and also working out and maintaining a balanced diet. She is also taking care of her wardrobe choices and learning to walk in stilettos. “It is a lot of work, but I have enjoyed the entire process. It has taught me to push myself forward and not stop,” Roy points out.

Ask her what keeps her motivated and she says, “Pageants can be stressful, but being honest about how much I am willing to invest financially, emotionally and physically has helped to never compromise on anything. I have a sound mind regarding the entire endeavour,” says Roy. What helped her further was her motto: ‘Get a new perspective’. Whenever she feels stressed she takes a deep breath and steps back.

Roy says that you have two choices — either give up or simply accept the challenge and focus on how to overcome it. “Your mental strength and consistency will help you overcome any challenge. The only person who can bring a change is you,” says Roy adding, “You will be surprised to know how much potential you have. You will realise once you decide to unleash your power within.”
