It is imagination all the way for this 12-yr-old

Imagination is a powerful tool that lets us explore and look beyond the spectrum of reality. Drawings, paintings, poems and most things creative are often the results of such imagination — not just of the artist but of the ones viewing the art form. One such young artist who finds solace in his imagination is 12-year-old Avineer Rakshit.

Lovingly called Dodo, Rakshit adores his Xbox and vast collection of cars. He first started sketching when he was barely two but his artwork and designs began evolving as he grew older. Models of McLaren F1, Focke-Wulf 190 A8, Ferrari 250 GTO (1964) and even Northrop F-5E Tiger II are some of his earlier works.

Rakshit recently showcased his artwork at Conrad Pune in an exhibition curated by Feelberry Antik, a global venture that enables an alliance between artists, galleries and collectors.

So what inspires Rakshit to sketch at such a young age? A fascinating dream of him being able to play with the things that he draws as materialistic objects, he answers. “I love toys like any other boy my age, and I am more attracted towards models of cars, submarines and planes, to name a few. But let’s face it, even though I like all these toy models, it is not possible or even practical for me to get my hands on all of them, so I simply draw them and give them life through my imagination,” explains the young self-taught sketch artist who likes to follow his impulse that helps him walk the line between surrealism and realism.

His favourite subject to sketch is automobiles. “I often sketch other things like aircraft, yachts, submarines etc but my subject is purely based on things that look good and attractive to my eyes,” he explains.

Rakshit has even sketched the very complex Alexander von Humboldt, a German sailing ship originally built in 1906 by the German shipyard AG Weser at Bremen as the lightship Reserve Sonderburg. He tells us that it operated throughout the North and Baltic Seas until it was retired in 1986 and converted into a three-masted barque by the German shipyard Motorenwerke Bremerhaven and relaunched in 1988 as Alexander von Humboldt.

WILL CONTINUE TO EXPLORE ART
He loves to escape into his world of art and create more of it. While he loves his sketches right now, eventually he wants to explore other forms of drawing and painting along with sketching.

Speaking of his favourite piece so far, the Ferrari 250 GTO Sports Coupe tops the list. “It is by far the most intricate piece I’ve created and was originally a birthday present for my father,” says Rakshit. He mentions that he simply adores the 250 GTO and it is also one of his most favourite cars. Someday he would also like to get a real model of it.

The boy likes keeping himself busy all the time. When not sketching, one can find him reading books. “I love reading thrillers, especially the ones that are mainly about war and include a lot of automobiles,” says Rakshit who dreams of going into outer space to visit other planets one day.
