Amrita Singh and Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan was set to make her debut with Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath. But now the fate of the film is not known as its director and producer KriArj Entertainment (Prernaa Arora and Arjun N Kapoor) and T-series have had a fallout. These reports come as no surprise since Abhishek has a history of fallouts, mostly said to be owing to his unprofessional behaviour.
In a statement issued by KriArj Entertainment, their official spokesperson said, “Guy In The Sky Pictures (Abhishek Kapoor’s production house) is trying to wriggle out of a binding agreement. KriArj Entertainment and T-Series continue to own the film as its co-producers along with Balaji and also own its exclusive distribution rights.”
They said that they are also seeking legal recourse against Abhishek and his production company for the various defaults committed by them of their commitments to both KriArj and T-Series. “This includes attempts made by Guy In The Sky Pictures and Abhishek Kapoor to cheat KriArj Entertainment and T-Series after making them heavily invest in the film. We no longer wish to make any further comments, the court proceedings will put all speculation to rest,” the statement further read.
In another statement issued by the production house, they said that while there has been ample speculation surrounding the severing of this partnership, KriArj Entertainment and T-Series have faced major financial and creative differences with the filmmaker.
Sources reveal that owing to Abhishek’s lack of professionalism, the film had no takers until KriArj Entertainment came on board to produce it.
The new age studio, which shares a great equation with T-Series later brought them on board as well to look after other aspects like the music, digital, satellite and cable rights.
However, both the studios were wary about Abhishek’s interference in their financial decisions and his constant delays in delivering the film. The film was going grossly overbudget as Abhishek’s planning was completely unprofessional and disorganised and the entire production was being handled by his production house.
Says an inside source, “KriArj Entertainment and T-Series decided to come on-board since they believed in the film and in Abhishek Kapoor’s vision. However, as Kedarnath unfolded, several issues pertaining the dates of the talent, prep time and delays in the film’s delivery began cropping up. Abhishek replaced several of the crew members and technicians at the very last minute. Despite investing a huge sum into the project, Kedarnath was going way overbudget owing to Gattu’s (Abhishek) constant unreasonable demands. He not only delayed the shoot of the film by six months but also majorly interfered in the film’s financial planning and overall business workings. Abhishek also demanded that a higher price be quoted for the music rights and this despite T-Series being music moguls.”
The producers are also miffed with the director for announcing the release date of the film. Adds the source, “Deciding a film’s release date should be the producer’s call since they are the ones investing huge sums into the project. However, Abhishek interfered in that as well and went on to announce a release date on Twitter without consulting KriArj Entertainment who were against releasing the film on the same date as Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Zero. There were also rumours of Abhishek not allowing KriArj to sign Sara Ali Khan for another film they were in talks for and pressurised the studio to drop the film. It came to a point where the makers refused to put up with Abhishek’s arm twisting. For now, Kedarnath is on hold until everything is clear on papers.”
