Got Creators on Netflix board

I t’s no surprise that online media producers like Netflix, Amazon, Disney, HBO, Comcast and Apple were bidding to collaborate with David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the creators of Game Of Thrones, for their service. Prior to the release of the last season of the most loved series, Benioff and Weiss had met the executives of these media firms but they were in no hurry to arrive at any decision.

The duo wanted to strike a deal above $200 million and so they first zeroed in on Netflix, Amazon and Disney and finally inked it with Netflix. Now the multi-year deal would give Benioff and Weiss the freedom to write, direct and produce for both TV series and movies on the streaming platform. In an official statement from Netflix, Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix said in a statement, “We are thrilled to welcome master storytellers David Benioff and Dan Weiss to Netflix.” He also stated, “They are a creative force and have delighted audiences worldwide with their epic storytelling. We can’t wait to see what their imaginations will bring to our members.”

In a joint statement, Benioff and Weiss stated, “We’ve had a beautiful run with HBO for more than a decade and we’re grateful to everyone there for always making us feel at home. Over the past few months, we’ve spent many hours talking to Cindy Holland and Peter Friedlander, as well as Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber. We remember the same shots from the same ’80s movies; we love the same books; we’re excited about the same storytelling possibilities. Netflix has built something astounding and unprecedented, and we’re honored they invited us to join them.”

GoT airs in India on Star World.
