Give your home a festive makeover

Give your home a festive makeover

With the festival season and mood setting in, most of us are busy deciding what to wear for Diwali. And while we are at it, let’s also give a quick makeover to our homes, and get them ready, just in time for the festival of lights.

Lokendra Singh Ranawat, founder and CEO,  WoodenStreet, an online custom furniture store headquartered in Jaipur, Rajasthan, says that some of the ways in which we can give our home a festive look is by picking bright colours for the wall. “You can redo the walls with bright colours and patterns invoking the festive spirit. Use gorgeous curtains with embroidery to go with them,” suggests Ranawat.

When it comes to flooring, Ranawat adds that boho-inspired ethnic rugs with abstract designs are the perfect mix of Western outlook and traditional decor and they help lift the look and mood of a room.

When asked what are the few things to be considered while rearranging the living room and bedroom furniture, Ranawat says that it is important to understand the layout of the room. “Look out for windows, doors, wall frames and electric sockets and then decide the placement of furniture accordingly. While setting the furniture or rearranging it, leave out the corners. Instead of pushing the main furniture in the corner, create a focal point with it and decorate around it,” says Ranawat.

It is important to complete the look, he says and adds that one shouldn’t leave things undone. “Give the colossal units a supporting furniture unit each, like bedside table for the bed and coffee table for the sofa. It gives a complete look for your home,” he adds.

“And for a final touch of festivity, the lighting of the room plays a pivotal role. So this festive season, opt for yellow table lights because they set a cozy and vibrant mood for the season,” he points out.

People should invest in lights that can add a good flavour to the home decor, he feels. “Decorate your corners with study lamps and table lamps while you can use decorative sconces for walls. For the ceiling, you can opt for modern metal and copper painted hanging lights. They give a festive feel,” says Ranawat.

He also adds that in the spirit of festival season, one should opt for a traditional colour palette like a deep blue, fuchsia, indigo blue, burnt orange and red because they complement the aura of the season.

Talking about some of the home decor pieces that one should have on display in the house during the festive season, Ranawat says that an eye-catching piece would be a nice comfortable pouffe as printed and colourful pouffes can make the setting of the room comfortable and trendy.

He also adds that traditional block printed bedsheets can bring a traditional and chic flair to the room. “The lasted fad in the home decor scene is the ottoman. Push two of these with the sofa set for an eclectic and effective decor and don’t forget to escalate the decor with the addition of greenery and blossom vibe,” Ranawat concludes.
