Get some Moore

Get some Moore

Mandy Moore is a woman of many talents. Named Amanda Leigh Moore by her parents in New Hampshire, she developed an interest in singing and acting from a very young age. The year 1999 defined her career as a singer as she went on tours with NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys, and released her debut hit single titled Candy, making her a teen pop sensation.

After dabbling in Hollywood by lending her voice to a girl bear cub in Dr Dolittle 2 and co-starring with Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries, she found her feet with her role in A Walk to Remember. We take a look at some of her best work in films and television ahead of her 35th birthday on April 7.

TANGLED
This 2010 release is a remake of the classic fairytale. Mandy lends her voice to the main character, Rapunzel, who is kept in a high tower by, who she believes is, her mother. One day, the tower is invaded by a crown-thief on the run, who meets Rapunzel. The rest is an adventure you must watch on screen.

A video game based on the film was released for Nintendo DS, Wii and PC platforms by Disney Interactive Studios. Tangled Ever After, a short sequel to the film was also released where the plot revolved around the wedding of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. And Tangled: Before Ever After, a television movie set between the feature film and the short film, was released in 2017 which served as an introduction to a continuing television series, Tangled: The Series, which was later renamed Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure.

BECAUSE I SAID SO
This romantic comedy focuses on Diane Keaton who plays the role of Daphne, a loving but over-bearing mother of three. She desperately tries to find a suitable match for her daughter Milly, played by Mandy. Due to her mother’s interference in her love life, Milly finds herself dating two great guys, with neither of them aware of the other. The film follows Milly as she makes a choice whether to be the obedient daughter her mother wants her to be, or follow her heart and become her own woman.

A WALK TO REMEMBER
The coming-of-age romantic drama is based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks. Mandy plays the role of Jamie, a reverend’s daughter, and is paired opposite Shane West. He plays the role of Landon who is assigned community service after getting in trouble. His punishment also involves participating in the spring play, during which he falls in love with Jamie.

While audiences were divided on their reviews, the role won her a few awards and a lot of recognition. The film is considered one of the most romantic films of all time. If you’re a romantic, this is a must-watch.

THIS IS US
This American comedy-drama television series with tragic elements follows the lives and families of two parents, and their three children, in several different time frames. It stars an ensemble cast featuring Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K Brown, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, Ron Cephas Jones, Jon Huertas, Alexandra Breckenridge, Niles Fitch, Logan Shroyer, Hannah Zeile, Mackenzie Hancsicsak, Parker Bates, Lonnie Chavis, Eris Baker and Faithe Herman apart from Mandy, who is the central character. As the series progresses, its tragic aspect has grown more prominent which is something the writers themselves have acknowledged.

47 METERS DOWN
Known for her girl-next-door roles, Mandy totally reprises herself on screen for this survival-horror film. Mandy and Claire Holt play the role of two sisters, who go cage-diving while holidaying in Mexico. In a frightening turn of events, the cage falls to the bottom of the ocean with the two sisters trapped inside. As they are running out of air supply, the girls try to figure out a way to escape from the great white sharks hovering around them.
