The winter edition of The Pune Market curated by Karen Anand will feature quality food and lifestyle products displayed by handpicked exhibitors. An event that promises to be fun for the whole family, it has several activities planned for people of all age groups.

The market also introduces new lifestyle trends to the visitors. “Clearly organic and natural is a big trend. That is reflected in the growth of organic products at the market this time. For the first time, we have a dedicated lifestyle section with brands that conform to sustainable living like Indo-Bohemian with 100 per cent organic clothing and Angiya (organic lingerie). Get into your fashionista mode — buy a pair of eco friendly wooden sun glasses from the Tribe,” says Anand.

She talks about fruit ciders becoming the next big thing on the beverage front. “Fruit ciders are now becoming an international trend. We are very happy to have Fruzzante at the market with their range of fruit ciders with flavours such as chickoo with spices, mango and pineapple,” she says.

You can visit the Pure Harvest stall at the market which has limited stock of Kadaknath (black chicken) eggs. “Not many organic brands have access to these products as it is produced in small numbers by marginalised chicken farmers,” says Rajsingh Nimbalkar, co-founder, Pure Harvest. Talking about the Kadaknath eggs, which are produced by a local breed of hens, he says, “When you think of organic food, you only think of it being free from chemicals. But in its true sense, organic food must be sourced locally and be native to the region. Since these eggs are produced by hens that are local to Maharashtra, they are tailormade according to the climatic conditions here. The nutrients are absorbed faster by the body and better suited for the locals to consume. The eggs are sourced directly from the poultry farmers so they are empowered to grow their business without being exploited by big corporate giants.”

And if they run out of the Kadaknath eggs, you can always chat them up about how to use aquaponics to set up your own farm in your balcony and grow your own food.

With more and more people becoming health-conscious and giving up various things from their diet like sugar or maida, gluten-free products are becoming popular. Kadhali, a brand run by Namrata Shastri, will stock raw banana flour and another high-protein gluten-free variety called Quik Mix. “We also have oil-free crackers and granola bars made with amaranth, gluten-free vegan pizza bread and sugar-free cookies made with jaggery. The new gluten-free varieties of flour can easily replace regular wheat or maida. It is good for the gut and improves immunity. You can make everything from chapati to cake with it,” says Shastri.
