Gear Up

Gear Up

Though running could be as easy as jogging in the park for a few, a few others have to put in extra effort to get going. Those running a marathon need even more grit and perseverance. Further, to ace a marathon, besides physical training, the right gear is important.

To help you get on track, Rajat Khurana, managing director of ASICS India Pvt Ltd, shares a list of essential running gear.

According to him, you must have a simple checklist to help  avoid any last-minute disasters, and also to make sure you appear at the start line confident and prepared.

Here we go:
Running shoes: To put your best foot forward, quite literally, your most important piece of running gear is the right pair of shoes for your foot type. Once you’ve found a good pair and your runs start to increase, you may be thinking about other running gear that you may need.

Socks: Even if you have found the right running shoes, to keep your long runs blister-free, it is important to choose socks that allow movement between the layers. Also, according to the weather, you have to determine the length of the socks you will be wearing.

Shorts/ Running Tights: It is important to let your body have a seamless flow while running. If it’s hot and humid, it is important to wear dri fit running shorts that make you feel comfortable. In cold weather, wear running tights that won’t let your muscles cramp.

Nutrition: A machine doesn’t function well without the right amount of fuel. Likewise your body needs fuel too to run long distances. So, stock up on nutrition bars and glucose fluids — they will keep you energised and hydrated, and won’t allow muscles to cramp.

Earphones/ Headphones: The rhythm you choose while running is important and there is nothing better than music to set the flow. So, it becomes important to pick out the suitable earphones/ headphones to accompany you during your practice runs. Choose something light and enjoy the run!

For the joy of running: Don’t forget, it’s better to be well-rested than overstrained. So, think of all the training you have already done. Be proud of yourself for not giving up and for making it to the start line.

Have a fantastic race!
