Fashion for a cause

Each one of us have our own way of giving back to society. Mumbai-based entrepreneur, business facilitator and philanthropist, Farhana Vohra, is presenting Celebrate Life — a ramp walk to support underprivileged children. Along with the fashion show, an art auction will also be held. The event is being held to support Catalysts for Social Action, an NGO which works towards the welfare of children residing in orphanages and childcare institutions.

Vohra, who has been supporting Celebrate Life for the past five years, says, “Twenty-five renowned socialites, educationists, lawyers, doctors, designers, singers and actors will walk the ramp today at St Regis Hotel, Mumbai. A few years ago, I got associated with the cause as an auctioneer and compère. But in the last few years, the event has gone to a different level. The event is presented by me, in aid with the CSA,” she says.

The Maharaja and Maharani of Mewar (Maharaj Kumar Vishvaraj Singh and Kanwrani Mahima Kumari) will be the chief guests for the event. “Along with them, celebrities like Isha Koppikar, Timmy Narang, Sangeeta Singh, Savita Singh, Arjun Khanna, Ankur Khosla, Ahana Deol Vohra, Terence Lewis, Sunita Rao and several others will walk the ramp,” says Vohra, adding that 30 well-known artists have contributed their work for the art auction.

Those who will be attending the event or walking the ramp will be doing so with the support of their families or along with their families. “But many of the children, who we are supporting, never had families. There are kids who have never been hugged or have gone to sleep having one meal in two days. It’s people like us who can make a difference in their lives,” adds Vohra, who is a certified life coach.

Dedicated to empowering people to lead healthier, happier and successful lives, Vohra says that being associated with the cause isn’t faddish for her but her ‘calling in life’. “Everything that I am doing is going to bring a great difference in a child’s life. Even if I change the life of 100 kids, which could be a small number, I will consider myself lucky,” she says.

This initiative by Catalysts for Social Action has helped increase more than 65 childcare institutions in four states. They reach over 3,600 children annually.
