Ear to Ear

Ear to Ear

Earrings are one of the most important accessories which can help elevate your look. Your face being the focus of attention, wearing a gorgeous pair which goes well with your attire and suits your features can make a difference to your get-up.
Blogger, stylist, and designer Nabilah Shaikh, founder and owner of  House of Anaqa, says, “Wearing the correct pair of earrings can be very flattering and can help accentuate your best features and take attention away from the not-so-great ones. Earrings are a wonderful way to perk up your face and make you look classy and fabulous. However, don’t just blindly choose trendy ones!” Here, she shares some valuable tips:

A few basic rules to keep in mind:

Mirror: Always choose your earring in front of a mirror. Also remember that you should do this once you are ready with makeup, clothes, hair, etc.

Desi tadka: While opting for an Indian outfit and pairing it with jhumkis, chaand baalis or others, check the stone colour of the earrings and whether it goes with the dress with whatever base you are looking for (gold/ silver). The best pairs are kundan earrings that go with almost everything. Remember, when you wear an Indo-Western oufit, always go for oxidised jewellery.

Opposites attract: When you go for a Western look, try picking up a pair of earrings in contrast colour because one colour helps bring out the other. For example, if you are wearing a yellow dress/ gown, you can pair it with emerald green earrings and look like a diva.

Seek help: It is not bad to seek others’ opinion if you are confused.

Keep it simple: This tip comes when you are wearing denims and a top. If you are wearing a golden watch, make sure you wear golden studs. Whenever you wear denims, it’s always best to keep it simple with studs. However, they can be colourful.

Pairing with the right face type:

Round: If your face is circular (widest at the cheekbones), long drop or dangle earrings will elongate your face and make it look slimmer. Avoid large circular earrings, such as hoops or chaand balis and button studs which will only make the face look fuller.

Long and narrow: If you have a long and thin face, go for earrings that emphasise your width area. Studs, heavy jhumkas, chaand balis, short dangles, hoops in a medium to large size are your best friends.

Square: Girls with wide square jaws need to go for earrings that are medium to long in size with rounded edges. Oval, circular and hoop earrings work well too. Stay away from square studs or any kind of earrings in square shape as they only reinforce the sharp angles on your face.

Oval: If you have an oval face, you are indeed lucky. You can wear almost any shape, but triangular earrings or simple studs will show off your lovely cheekbones best.

Heart: Long, dangle drops and chandeliers that end at or above the chin will suit this face shape. This earring shape helps to focus on and widen the mouth area.
