Debutant director Mahinder Singh Saniwal says that the concept of his film Journey of Bhangover is fresh and something we haven’t seen in Hindi films before

Mahinder Singh Saniwal’s debut film Journey of Bhangover is creating a lot of buzz thanks to Bigg Boss contestant Sapna Choudhary’s item number. The film, which is a comic thriller, is set to release on December 15. It stars Yashpal Sharma, Hemant Pandey, Prerika Arora, Aradhya Taing, Jimmy Sharma, Anmol Khatri, Palash Soni, Jaideep Ahlwat and others.

“The film begins with five students receiving an award for getting two terrorists arrested. But the problem is that these guys do not remember how they managed to get the terrorists arrested as they had lost their senses after having bhaang on Holi. What happens to them next is the rest of the movie,” says the director who has worked in television for more than 12 years.

Mahindra says that the story has been inspired by his personal experience. “Once I was on a high after having bhaang. My nephew captured my madness on phone. After coming back to my senses, he showed me the video. It was kind of funny watching myself doing all those antics. So I decided to write the film on the same lines. What happens if you have too much bhaang and not remember anything that follows,” he says.

Mahindra, has not only written the story but also produced it with Meenakshi Vijay.

Ask him what challenges he faced while working on the film and he replies, “One, we were working with a new star cast and also we had limited budget. Getting a release date for my first time was a challenge.” He adds that getting veteran actors like Yashpal, Hemant and Jaideep wasn’t a huge task. “Once they heard the content of the film, they agreed to be part of it.” As for working with new actors, he says that it was so because the story demanded it.

He adds that the story is quite unique. “Its content is fresh and we haven’t seen anything like this before in Hindi films,” says the director who has worked as assistant director in shows like Kavyanjali and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi along with several other serials.
