Dress for your love

Dress for your love

Couples have already kicked off their Valentine’s Day celebrations, but some are saving their biggest surprises for tomorrow. Gifts and dinner dates have already been planned, but you need to also look your best to impress your loved one. To make your day, fashion experts share a few useful tips that will make the celebrations extra special, and you, more attractive and sensuous in the appealing wearables.

GO DESI
While everyone opts for a Western and contemporary look, this Valentine’s Day, dress differently and stand out by going the ethnic way. Yes you heard it right! With fashion becoming more inclusive and open to experimenting, it’s time to celebrate love and surprise your man with some traditional or Indo-Western outfits.

“There are so many options in Western wear but finding the right romantic outfit in ethnic category is quite a struggle. At Indian Ink, we have curated a set of looks that are just perfect for you and will make your special someone’s heart skip a beat,” says Krina Panjwani, design head, Indian Ink, a fashion label.

Panjwani suggests that for an intimate candle light dinner, a red embroidered kurta paired with a pair of shimmery embroidered palazzo will be the perfect attire for you. “Carrying off red without going overboard with loudness requires careful accessorising and makeup. Neutral coloured add-on and light makeup will complement your over-powering outfit well,” she advises.

If you are planning for a movie date, it calls for a lighter, comfortable outfit with minimal styling. Panjwani suggests, “Opt for a pastel pink cowl kurti with minimal embroidery and complement it with a shimmer legging. Style it up with a pair of dainty earrings and a pair of comfortable sandals. Keep your look minimal and light to match the mood.”

These days couples are also moving beyond dinners and movies, and planning an out-of-town getaway to bond better, spend quality time, unwind and relax. For such outings, Panjwani suggests breezy and lightweight contrast kurti which is perfect while travelling and yet manages to dazzle. “An embroidered kurta in a delicate fabric would work well for a daytime outing. You can style the kurti with strappy sandals and tassel earrings and a statement kada,” she adds.

FOR WOMEN
Non-traditional colours
We all love the idea of something stylish that doesn’t scream cliché. Red is so expected on Valentine’s Day, which is why we recommend colours like blue, teal or purple. Rocking an off-the-shoulder style is sexy and sophisticated. Non-traditional colours with romantic lace is the winning combination.

Little white dress
Instead of the regular Little Black Dress opt for white. Go for embellished or exaggerated sleeves, team it up with sexy lace heels and it will be the perfect target for Cupid’s arrow.

A blend of red and pink
If you’re the type to fully embrace the lovely day, then choose red the right way! Slip into the sexiest red dress or it’s time to wear red and pink together. It’s the season’s coolest colour pairing. Valentino, Gucci, Céline and Balenciaga all sent red and pink looks down the runway this season. Match your shirt with your shoes, top and skirt or go for a red dress with a pink cover-up. Choose whatever feels good for you and become a trendsetter.

Go quirky
Choose quirky prints and styles to draw that extra attention. Look your most stylish and trendy by teaming these up with slings or box clutches.

Ditch dresses
Ruffles, halters, capes, blouses, one-shoulders, etc, there’s so much variety of tops to choose from these days. Team them up with denims, skirts or trousers to look even more chic.

FOR MEN
Look royal with blue
Blue is a great colour for night time and any man can carry it off like a star. Wearing a blue shirt with a blazer can instantly give you a sharp look.

White swag
If you’re not in the mood of wearing something dark, or if you feel that light colours look better on you, then go for an all white look with a touch of brown and gold. This elegant and yet simple outfit is definitely going to make you stand out.

Denim never fails
Wear a denim shirt along with a pair of light coloured denim pants to complete the look. Denim on denim is a trend that will always prevail. Go for some offbeat looks by choosing patchwork denim shirt, ripped jeans, or fringed denim jacket, etc.

Daytime colours
Choose pastels, as they are classy, elegant and make you look sophisticated. Peach, light pink, mint green, sober yellow, sky blue are the colours to look out for. Try blazers, trousers, ties, brogues or shirts in these colours to look casually cool and stylish.

Keep it sporty
If you are one of those guys who can’t leave their love for sports for anything, then donning a sporty blazer over a tee teamed up with sneakers will make you look comfortable and trendy. You can opt for trendy polo shirts with suede loafers as well.
