Crazy little thing called love

Crazy little thing called love

Love – one of the most powerful forces of nature can make a man scale tallest of the mountains and sail over deepest seas. It is because the emotion of love is bigger than who you are or anything you have ever known. And even though modern day love stories might not be as lofty, they prove that people still believe in the concept of love in the age of dating apps and hook ups. From the classic ‘opposites attract’ to the cliche ‘fighting the world together’, here’s a list of movies that will stir the romantic in you:
Madame
Madame is a lovely, bitter-sweet dramedy. It is not just another Disney-like, implausible, ‘Cinderella’ story that Hollywood throws at us with admirable frequency. This film tells the story of a maid who fills in as a guest in her employer’s dinner party where a wealthy art dealer falls for her, and a tricky situation ensues. The movie has an unusual ending and this element is precisely what is charming about it. If you have not seen Madame, here is your chance of watching the Indian television premiere of the movie on June 9 at 1 pm only on Sony PIX.

Crazy Rich Asians
Crazy Rich Asians is about Rachel Chu, a Chinese American NYU professor who travels to Singapore with her boyfriend Nick Young to attend his best friend’s wedding. She discovers that Nick comes from one of Asia’s most wealthy families. A commoner amongst the social elite, Rachel becomes a target for single women vying for Nick’s attention as well as for his judgemental mother Eleanor, who wants nothing more than to break them up. Watch Crazy Rich Asians on Amazon Prime.

Phantom Thread
Phantom Thread manages to express an artist’s creative journey through threads of fashion and romance with such subtlety that it could only be conveyed through the medium of a film. Reynolds Woodcock, who is obsessed with order, symmetry and following an organised routine, finds his lifestyle drastically changing after falling in love with a waitress Alma Elson, who later becomes his muse.

A Star Is Born
The heart of this movie is the love story between the struggling artist Ally Campana and a seasoned artist Jackson Maine. These two people fall in love with each other’s talent as much as anything else. They inspire each other in a way that artists often do. A Star is Born is about one comet rising while another crashing. When Ally was just about to give up on her dreams, Jackson coaxes her into the spotlight. But as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of their relationship breaks down, as Jackson fights a battle internally.

Isn’t It Romantic
Natalie is a New York architect who works hard to get noticed at her job, but is more likely to deliver coffee and bagels than design the city’s next skyscraper. Things go from bad to weird when she gets knocked unconscious during a subway mugging and magically wakes up to find herself in an alternate universe. Always cynical about love, Natalie’s worst nightmare soon comes true when she suddenly discovers that she’s playing the leading lady in a real-life romantic comedy. Watch Isn’t It Romantic on Netflix.
