Being a YouTube star...

We have seen the rise of a number of digital platforms in the past one decade, including YouTube, Instagram and a host of others. They have provided knowledge, skills, exposure and earning opportunities to lakhs of users. No wonder, many youngsters are hooked on to them.

But the journey to be a YouTube star is not an easy one. Youngsters have to face a number of challenges and it starts with convincing parents that digital content creation is a legit job. As it happened in the case of Aashqeen. A YouTube sensation today, the youngster too had his share of struggles before he got into limelight and became a superstar, enjoying a subscriber base of 2.2 million as on today.

Known for his videos on YouTube like Inteqam, The Interview, Aashqeen meets Sapna, Never Judge Too Quickly among others, he is now all set to launch his own web series titled Superstar: The Chant Launda. The trailer gives a peek into the daily challenges faced by a YouTuber. The web series will be available on Aashqeen’s YouTube channel Aashqeen and his Facebook page @aashqeen1.

Talking about it, the youngster says that it is the first ever web series created by an independent YouTuber. “It is the journey of Raunak Panday, who wants to be a YouTuber against his parents’ wishes,” he says.

The character of Raunak is loosely based on his own journey, he reveals. “When I first thought of becoming a YouTuber, my parents were against it because back then, I was studying to be an engineer.”
In India, being a content creator on YouTube is not considered as a career option or a full-time job. “I faced resistance and I am pretty sure many others did so too,” he says.

Of course, things are slowly changing, he points out. With more and more people getting into the digital space, there is a greater visibility and parents too have noticed and understood that it is a career that can take you places and more importantly, it is a respectable job.

Aashqeen says that the reason he decided to make the web series was to make people aware that being a YouTuber is not only about leading a glamorous life, creating videos and pleasing your fans, but it is a lot of hard work, and involves overcoming challenges and constantly creating content that is fresh, relatable and unique. “Even though it looks all fun and easy, one really has to struggle to garner a strong base and then struggle even more to retain it and keep it growing. But if you have the passion and the confidence, it is going to take you places,” he concludes.

The first episode of Superstar: The Chant Launda will be out today (April 19) on Aashqeen’s YouTube channel
