Amaal Malik to perform with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at IFFM Awards

Musician and singer Amaal Malik has been roped in to be the official performer at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) awards night scheduled to take place on August 8. Amaal will be be performing to a medley of his most popular compositions and renditions at the iconic Palais Theatre. 

He will be joined for his performance with one of the most reputed orchestras based in Melbourne, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The oldest orchestra in Australia, they’ve previously collaborated with the likes of Elton John and Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. 

An ecstatic Amaal, says, “It’s nothing short of an honour for me to be collaborating with them. It’s a big moment and I want to deliver my very best for the evening. I have been short listing songs for the medley. There will be a few expected and some very unexpected choices from my end. I will spend a good few days to prepare for them before meeting the team in Melbourne.” 

Festival director Mitu Bhowmick says, “Given Amaal’s popularity with every section of the audience, he was pretty much an obvious choice for us. It will be a gala evening filled with music that truly celebrates cinema from India. Given that it’s Melbourne, an Aussie twist had to be in order.”

The organisers also announced that Mission Mangal will have its Australian premiere and a special I-Day screening at the festival. The Jagan Shakti directorial stars Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi, H G Dattatreya and Sonakshi Sinha.
