Actors are busier today

After being a part of the critically acclaimed web series Sacred Games 2, Aamir Bashir now features in the highly anticipated series — Inside Edge Season 2. The actor is playing the character of Bhaisaab, who was prominently mentioned in the first season. Says the actor, “It was very interesting for me to play Bhaisaab because he is a powerful man with many grey shades. He is neither the good guy, nor the villain. But he is also a family man. The different facets of his personality helped me as an actor.”

“Bhaisaab is a much older man. The interesting fact is that I started my journey playing older characters in school and college plays but never on screen. In that sense, I have always been old,” he laughs.

Inside Edge Season 2 started streaming on Amazon Prime Video from December 6. Aamir has joined Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chadha, Angad Bedi, Tanuj Virwani, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Amit Sial and Sayani Gupta, who were also part of the first season. Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani (Excel Entertainment), the web series was one of the talked-about original from India on the OTT platform.

Sharing his experience of being a part of series, the actor says, “Excel Entertainment is one of the best when it comes to their actors. It’s really smooth and fun shoot. All my co-actors were great.

People were already attached to the characters because of the first season, so I had to find my space. It was a bit tricky too because even though Bhaisaab wasn’t seen in the first season, everybody had a certain notion about the character in their mind. Therefore it was both tricky and exciting for me.”

It’s hard to associate the talented actor with negative characters because of the positive roles he has played both on the big and small screen. But Aamir refuses to call Bhaisaab a ‘negative man’. “Everyone has both negative and positive traits within them. It’s up to the audience to decide whether they find Bhaisaab negative or not but I don’t,” he says while promoting the series.

Inside Edge Season 2 is Aamir’s second stint on the digital platform and he says it’s exciting on this platform. “It’s a longer format, with limited series and therefore gives a lot more space to character actors to flesh out their roles, have proper graph from season to season. It therefore  makes lot of difference to actors as they are able to sketch their characters,” he adds.

As an audience, he says, he is more of a documentary buff. “I find documentary series more interesting because I find the real life characters appealing.” In spite of being one of the talented actors of Bollywood, Aamir has given memorable performances in limited number of films including A Wednesday, Raat Gayi Baat Gayi, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Haider and others. Is there any reason for him doing such limited projects and he replies, “It’s a bit of everything. I am not getting the right kind of scripts and I am also choosy about the projects I do. I feel it’s kind of changing now because the digital platform gives you a lot of opportunity. Actors are busier today.”

Not many know that Aamir is an equally talented director. His debut independent film Harud, based on Kashmir, had premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

There were reports about him working on his second project Winter and he affirms it. “The film should be ready sometime next year. Some portions are left to be shot,” he says.
