Glimpses of the first India Pen Show held in Mumbai last weekend, to pay tribute to poet-lyricist Kaifi Azmi
The India Pen Show, presented by William Penn, was a one-of-a-kind event held at Nehru Centre, Mumbai on February 2 and 3. India’s first-ever show that focussed on international fountain pens, it paid tribute to Kaifi Azmi, the renowned Urdu poet-lyricist and avid fountain pen enthusiast on his birth centenary.
The two day event, an interesting combo of trade fair, hobby convention and market place for pen lovers attracted droves of enthusiasts, families, collectors and connoisseurs. There was a plethora of fountain pens at the exhibition, free calligraphy workshops, handwriting tips from KC Janardhan (the only person in India to have written his own passport), doodle workshop, an opportunity to test more than 150 colours of ink, nib testing table, handwriting analysis done by Indian graphology institute and chit chat on pens at the fest too.
“The first edition of the India Pen Show, is an amazing experience and also we have a wonderful collection of fountain pens at our 31 stores, offline as well as online. We showcased our renowned international premium and luxury brands, to the delight of pen-lovers of all ages!” said Nikhil Ranjan, Managing Director, William Penn, in the presence of the chief guest, Shabana Azmi.
“My father only wrote with premium Fountain pens, of which he had a big collection. He would take them out, lovingly admire them, write with them and then lock them up! Looking at this collection reminds me of him,” Shabana said.
The limited edition elegant Kaifi Azmi Pen, launched at the event, is a tribute to an avid and true fountain pen lover, who personified elegance in his thoughts and lifestyle.
Crafted from high quality Italian resin in a rich cocoa colour, the barrel has a ring with the Kaifi logo and TIPS logo. The solid gold nib also bears the Kaifi logo. These pens were presented to Ustad Zakir Hussain, Javed Akhtar, Anuradha Parikh, Pritish Nandy, Shyam Benegal and Mahesh Bhatt among others at the festival.
