‘We are seeing some good stories and writers’

Sukhmani Sadana, who is back with the second season of web series - #LoveBytes on SonyLiv, is happy with the response the series is receiving.  “We have been receiving such positive responses. People are talking about it. The reason the producers decided to launch the second season is because of the appreciation the series got. It’s a different format for me and Kushal Punjabi,” she says. The series also stars Manish Goyal and Ayaz Khan. “They’re all experienced actors so it was fun working with them. We used to have fun off screen but once the camera was on, they got into their characters. It’s been a learning experience. As for Kushal, he is a spontaneous actor but during the shooting, we would enjoy making changes,” she adds

Sukhmani says that though the story is a continuation of the first part, it’s got a fresh perspective. “This part is different,” she adds. #LoveBytes is about an urban couple and the trials and tribulations around them.

She is happy being part of web as Sukhmani believes that web is progressing. “It’s the medium that today’s audience connects with. Television might be a little old school. Web is the future,” she says.

Sukhmani says that as an actor she needs to understand the character before playing it. “When I read the script I have to understand the character only then I am able to connect with it,” she says.

Not many know that Sukhmani is also an established script writer and has worked for movies like Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum, Creature and Horror Story, 1920 and television shows such as MTV’s Tech Check and Wasp. “I am writing something for Kunal Kohli and others. I have also written for myself - a story about a girl, a ‘Queen’ kind of girl,” she says. Though she writes all kinds of scripts, Sukhmani says that she relates to Aniruddha style of films which are mature.

Sukhmani says that for the last two years, she is concentrating more on acting than script writing. “I need to give more time to writing. Acting is time consuming,” she says, adding, “I need like-minded people when collaborating as a writer. Writing is a tedious job because after writing a script you have pitch the idea to five people.”

She says that the state of writers has now changed in Bollywood as they get a decent pay for their work. “Earlier writers use to get such petty amount. Now that’s changing. We are seeing some good stories and writers,” she signs off.
