‘Shooting for the film wasn’t easy’

Deepak Anand, known for directing films like Balwaan, Yaad Rakhegi Duniya and Tum Se Achcha Kaun Hai is making a comeback on the big screen with The Rally, produced by Rohit Kumar. The film, which is releasing on September 8, stars newbies Mirza and Arshin Mehta.

During their recent visit to Sakal Times office, the young actors couldn’t stop raving about their film and their director. Mirza said, “This is the first film in India which is based on the Himalayan rally. We have shot amidst the real rally so it’s one-of-a-kind film.”

Talking further about his character, he said, “I play the role of a boy called Kamlapati Dogra, aka Paplu, who not only wants to participate but also win the Himalayan car rally. That’s his only dream and he doesn’t let anything else come in his way. But then we do not get everything in life that we wish.”

Talking about her role, Arshin said, “I play the role of a bubbly girl who is sweet and charming, but she is scared about certain things in life. That way, it was a lot of fun shooting for the film because we had lots of adventures to get the fear out of me. The film is a thriller with the backdrop of a love story.” Now that the trailer and music of The Rally has received great reviews, the actors are hoping that the audience will like the film too.

The actors said that shooting for the film wasn’t easy, and capturing the rally was even tougher. “There are no concrete roads where the rally happens. The cars kind of make the tracks. We drove the rally cars at high speeds, obviously under the guidance of experts. But shooting those scenes was tough,” said Mirza. He shared that the cars used in the rally are modified and they do not come cheap. One has to be thoroughly prepared before driving them in that terrain, so he had to go through a lot of training. Arshin added, “Even the weather was a challenge. The water was freezing, but it was fun shooting for the film.”

Mirza said that he could connect with the story on a personal level. “Just like my character is obsessed about winning the rally, I have always been obsessed with becoming an actor. Even though I have no family involved in the film business, I had to work hard to getting into acting,” he said.

Arshin shared that she too had dreams about becoming an actor since an early age. “But my family wanted me to finish my Chartered Accountant course and then pursue my career,” she said.

The debutant actors have a lot of good things to say about their director Deepak Anand, who has worked with actors like Suneil Shetty, Aditya Pancholi and others. “Deepak sir has become my friend and we have developed a great bond. He has an amazing quality of making people comfortable in no time. Because we had to finish the shoot in limited time, everyone was very stressed out. But he made sure that each one of us was having a comfortable time. He made it seem like a picnic,” said Mirza with Arshin added, “Personally, I was both excited and nervous. But Deepak sir made it easy for me. In fact, he would make breakfast for us so that we could have a fun experience.”

Both of them claim that they have evolved as actors after shooting for this film. “We were raw before doing the film but now we have been polished and prepared for our next projects,” said Mirza, who has signed two other films though he refuses to talk about them.
