‘Sacred Games’, ‘Lust Stories’ nominated for International Emmy awards

Three homegrown shows — Sacred Games, Lust Stories and The Remix have made it to the nomination list of International Emmy Awards. The nominations were announced on Thursday night on the official website of the awards.  

While Netflix original Sacred Games season two, directed by Anurag Kashyap and Neeraj Ghaywan, has been nominated for the Best Drama category along with Brazil’s Contra Todos season three, Germany’s Bad Banks and UK’s McMafia, another Netflix original Lust Stories has been nominated in the TV Movie/ Mini Series category. The other nominees include Safe Habour, If I Close My Eyes Now and Trezor. 

Radhika Apte has also been nominated in the Best Actress Category for Lust Stories. She is competing with Jenna Coleman in The Cry, Marjorie Estiano in Sob Pressão (Under Pressure) season 2 and Marina Gera in Orok Tel. The anthology has been directed by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee.

Amazon Prime Video’s The Remix is competing with La Voz season 2 (The Voice), Taboe (Taboo), The Real Full Monty: Ladies Night in the Non-Scripted Entertainment category.   

Sacred Games, which starred Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi and others, had Vikramaditya Motwane serving as a showrunner. 

Nawazuddin whose other international series McMafia is also competing in the Best Drama category tweeted, “Congratulations #AnuragKashyap you beauty, the epitome of innovation in Cinema, making Indians proud across the world, First for GOW being the only Indian film shortlisted by the Guardian & secondly Sacred Games being nominated at the Emmy’s. 3 Cheers to Vikram, Neeraj & Team SG.” 

“Hearty Congratulations to James Watkins & James Norton & to all the actors from 12 countries for our show #McMafia being nominated at the prestigious Emmy Award, also a big hug to Radhika Apte and team Lust Stories for being nominated,” he further wrote. 

The Gangs of Wasseypur filmmaker also couldn’t hold his excitement and announced the news on his Instagram page. “What a day. 3 Emmy Nominations. 1.lust stories (best miniseries) 2.Sacred Games (best Drama) 3. Radhika Apte(best actress-Lust Stories) #internationalemmy @netflix_in @radhikaofficial @karanjohar @zoieakhtar @rsvpmovies @ashidua #dibakar @vikramadityamotwane @ishikamohanmotwane @vidushak ufff,” he posted. Radhika has been nominated for the story, which has been directed by Anurag and it also starred Akash Thosar. 

Ashi Dua, Flying Unicorn Entertainment, co-producer, Lust Stories said, “We are very excited about our nominations at the Emmys. Obviously we are thrilled, we hadn’t expected this to happen and now that it has, we are really excited and keeping our fingers crossed to win the awards.” 

She added, “It’s a great time for people like us where platforms like Netflix help us achieve a global audience and people all over the world watch our content. We are very grateful to Netflix and our directors for doing a really good job.”

This year, the nominations are from 21 countries across 11 categories. The award ceremony will be held on November 25 at the 47th International Emmy Awards Gala in New York.
