‘Pihu’ promo stirs emotions and a storm

If you keep track of upcoming film trailers, you will be aware of the buzz Pihu has been creating on social media. Directed by Vinod Kapri and based on true events, Pihu revolves around a two-year-old girl who is left alone to wander about in an empty house.

The two-minute long trailer, which released two days ago, has left viewers baffled, petrified and scared as it shows two-year-old Pihu completely alone in her flat and has her mother’s dead body as company.

In the beginning, Pihu is seen waking up, playing with her balloon, switching on the TV to dance to her favourite song, but soon things begin to turn scary and ugly.

She tries to wake up her dead mother, trips, gets up and falls again. The next moment viewers see her doll falling from the balcony and Pihu trying to climb the balcony’s railing. We don’t know whether she falls offs the balcony or survives or someone comes to her aid, but the trailer shakes you up.

While Bollywood has appreciated the trailer, many parents have expressed disgust and disappointment at the film’s trailer and for putting a two-year-old in such life-threatening situations.

As if the trailer wasn’t enough, the filmmakers have now gone to the extent of promoting the film the most bizarre way.

Several Twitter users complained that they have received a phone call from a wailing child, which turned out to be a part of the marketing promo for the upcoming thriller, Pihu.

The movie prank isn’t going down well with people. In fact,  journalist Sudhir Srinivasan tweeted that he had received a call from an anonymous number. A baby wailed about her mother and dad, and hung up. “Disturbed, I tried calling back in vain. Got a message with a link to help the child. A link, as it turns out, of #Pihu’s trailer. A horrible idea, a disgusting invasion of privacy,” he tweeted.

Here are some of the tweets

Should #Pihu #PihuTrailer #pihumovie #pihufilm #pihuthefilm #pihuthemovie be banned by censor board. Such a bold movie. Ever the filmmaker thought the mental trauma any parent will go through after watching it! No more good scripts or movie to make. How sick is this! #bollywood

Creepy. #Pihu. Coming to the marketing strategy, what a sh#t this’s! Just to sell your movie you go to any heights? Come on man

Mama Miyan (@mamaNmiyan)
That just sounds horrifying! Who thought up of this stupid way of promoting it?? #PIHU

As a mom to a 6 year old, I couldn’t watch it after a min or so. I’ve seen a million horror movies but I couldn’t watch this. And those saying we should watch it to prepare ourselves for emergencies, guess what — one can do so even if one doesn’t watch such films/trailers #Pihu

Disgusting way of promoting a movie. Pls stop this ! #PIHU

Sidhu (@sidhuwrites)
Such a stupid, dismal idea. This is what happens when idiots take care of the promotional run. #Pihu
