‘Panga is a special film for me’

‘Panga is a special film for me’

Three years after the release of Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, Jassie Gill is gearing up for his second Bollywood film— Panga. He informs that he had signed Panga around the same time but it took time for the shooting to start. “We had to shoot in different places and because of that it took time. Since the concept was noble, I decided to wait,” he says, adding, “Panga is a special film for me.”

Jassie plays Kangana Ranaut’s husband in Ashwini Iyer Tiwari’s directorial, which is releasing today. The film also stars Neena Gupta and Richa Chadha. Jassie says that he was asked to audition for the role by Mukesh Chhabra’s office. “I wasn’t given the entire script but one scene, which I had to enact. When I was finalised, I heard the entire script, though I knew Kangana and Ashwiniji are part of the project. I could relate to a lot of things in the story and many would feel the same,” he says.

He adds that after reading the script, he realised that his parents could have had aspirations and dreams, which they have must have sacrificed for the sake of the family. “I was sure that such a film will inspire people. Also the character I am playing is of a supporting husband and I am sure after watching the film, it will make people think,” says the singer-actor.

As for the experience of working with Kangana, Ashwini and Neena in the movie, he says, “It was very nice. All three of them are stars in their own rights. They have been working in the industry for many years specially Neenaji and Kangana. When you work with such people, you get to learn a lot, just by watching them work. This is my second film in Bollywood and when you get to work with such people in the beginning of your career, it changes your mindset in a positive manner.”

He adds that even as a singer, he listens to talented vocalists. “I have learnt from them and have developed interest because of them.”

Jassie, who is working with a female director for the first time, says that every person has their own style of working. “The story of Panga somewhere is inspired from Ashwiniji’s life because of which, she knew what she wanted from each of the characters. When that happens, your work as an actor becomes easy,” he says, adding, “When we were discussing the script, even I was clear about how I wanted the character. That’s why it’s come out beautifully and realistically.”

Each one of us has taken some kind of panga in our life. Does Jassie have any panga moment in his life? He describe the phase when he went to Australia and even washed cars to save money so that he could fund his own music album. “I had to struggle a lot because it’s tough when a newcomer enters the industry,” says the actor who has already finished shooting another Hindi project but refuses to speak about the same.

Jassie entered the entertainment industry as a singer, so has music taken a back seat because of acting? He says, “For me, both are related to each other and both have been happening parallelly. I keep creating music in my mind. And the way we produce music has changed, so we do not need to spend so much time on it; we can make music even sitting in a hotel room. As I have spent many years in it, I do not need to put in a lot of effort; it happens organically.”
