‘It was tough’

‘It was tough’

Arti Singh was one of the most dignified contestants of Bigg Boss 13. Though Arti did not win, her stint on the reality show ahas been praised. She is happy to be attached to the tag ‘dignified contestant’. “Nothing else matters. Inspite of the show being controversial, when you walk out with so much respect, it’s a big thing,” she says.

But was she always clear about not crossing the line even before entering the show and she replies, “I had my boundaries. I will never say bad things about anyone’s parents because we have been taught since childhood to respect our parents and treat them like  god. When you are abusing someone’s parents, you are abusing god. I will never cross the ethical line in my life because I had to make my family proud. They have gained lot of respect over the years, I could never misuse it,” says the actress who has worked in shows like Maayka, Parichay — Nayee Zindagi Kay Sapno Ka, Uttaran, Waaris and others.

Ask her to describe her stay in the show and Arti says, “It was tough and I had given up many times. I was not confident in the beginning, but when I got the letter from my mother saying that she is proud of my journey, it gave me a lot of confidence. It doesn’t matter if you win the show or not, but people remembering your personality is important. When Vikas Gupta entered the house, he told me that I come across as a good person, which made me feel a lot more confident. Then Salman sir told me that I am playing the game well and going in the right path, which mattered the most because he would give us the right kind of guidance.”

Though Arti and Rashami Desai have been good friends for a long time, they clashed on the show. In fact, Arti had mentioned that she did not like the way Rashami was playing the game. “I didn’t like her in the game, but I love her. Our game ethics did not match, which is fine. But I have left behind all the grudges back on the show. Everyone had their own way of playing the game, so did Rashami. I can never forget that she was the first one to come and stand by me when I lost my father. I will never forget whatever she has done for me,” she says, adding that she too stood by Rashami when she was low in the show.

All through the show, Arti has been called a weak contestant. Inspite of her pointing out that she is playing independently, many thought she was surviving on the show because of Sidharth Shukla. Arti says, “The housemates kept instigating and demotivating me, but I did not react. Everyone in that house needed some kind of support. Sidharth saved me from nominations a couple of times. I would have returned the favour if I would have got the chance.”

During the show and even in the finale, the audience accused the makers of favouring Sidharth, which Arti says isn’t true. “Sidharth would immediately say sorry for his mistakes and when he did that, there was no point fighting with him. The housemates were biased with him so we should be blamed.”

Arti says that she will be in touch with Shefali Zariwala because she made her realise that she could be among the top 5. “Though she has spoken behind my back, she also made me realise that I have the qualities to reach the finale. Paras (Chhabra) also considered me to be a threat told me several times that I can win the show.”

Post the show, one would expect Arti to take a break but the actress says that she is in no mood for it. “I will concentrate on my work. I am open to offers,” says she. And what about her plans to get married? “Let me get a guy first,” she replies.
