‘It’s important to be yourself’

‘It’s important to be yourself’

Social media influencer Natasha Shrotri has been promoting TVF Play’s upcoming web series The Viral Stars. The social media star was in Pune visiting different colleges to motivate the youth to showcase their talent for the nationwide campaign #ZorSeTalentAaya and support the search for the ultimate viral star of India. We caught up with Natasha at MIT College. Excerpts from an interview:

Tell us about Viral Stars?
Viral Stars is a platform for all the youngsters out there to showcase their talent, have fun and just be themselves because I believe ‘to be yourself’ is very important on social media these days. And TVF’s Viral Stars is a great way to help such youngsters come up with their skills and talent.

How has been your experience of getting back to college after so many years?
It is really nostalgic getting back to college, but this time not as a student and that doubles the fun. It is amazing connecting to students all over again. We notice so much of raw talent in them. They have several new ideas which is really spectacular.

What made you take up fashion blogging? Were you always a style freak?
No, not at all! I have done my engineering from Cummins College, Pune. I was a total geek (unfashionable and not very social) back then. I would study all the time. I did not really care about fashion. But when I started working and had time and money for myself, that is when I started experimenting with fashion and then rest of it came very naturally.

What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion to me is having a clean look. It is not always about comfort I feel, but to keep up with the current trends. Being a fashion blogger you have to be updated about the trends.  You cannot by any chance be out of vogue.

If you had an option of embracing only one fashion trend throughout your life, what would it be?
My all-time favourite trend is a pair of ankle boots which goes well with crop tops and high waist shorts. I am totally in love with crop tops and I can stick to it throughout my life without even getting bored.

Your Instagram feed seems very much ‘now’. What is that one instagram tip you’d like to share?
My Instagram tip to youngsters is to keep good quality content on your feed. Nowadays, we have a lot of bloggers and almost everyone has an Instagram account, so what makes you stand out from others is your quality of content. You need to be careful about what you put out as it is for a larger crowd.

What, according to you, is the future of fashion blogging in India? Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
I definitely see myself ‘in fashion’ over the period and probably doing other things as well. Because I am a kind of person who likes to keep trying different things. Even when it comes to blogging, I like to keep changing and evolving. As trends are changing fast nowadays, every month there is a new application and a new trend. So although I see myself in the field relating to social media and fashion, nowadays you cannot tell where will you be in the next five years. It is a very long time, I must say.
