‘I have never seen such madness for any other star’

‘I have never seen such madness for any other star’

The preparation is on in full swing and all the celebrities will reach Pune soon,” says Shera, Salman Khan’s personal bodyguard, who is responsible for the security of the actors and backstage management at the Da-Bangg The Tour, Pune, which will be held on March 24 at Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Complex, Mhalunge, Balewadi. Four Pillars Events in association with 18 Degrees, Nirman Group and Sakal is bringing Da-Bangg The Tour to Pune. The event is directed and scripted by Sohail Khan Entertainment and JA Events.

He says that the Pune audience will get to watch live performances of Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha, Prabhudheva, Maniesh Paul, Guru Randhawa and Daisy Shah. “It will be a first for Pune,” he says.

Da-Bangg The Tour has in the past taken place abroad (Hong Kong, Auckland, Melbourne, London and Birmingham) and Delhi in India. Is the excitement any different in India?

“Obviously there is a lot of buzz. Especially in Pune, Salman Bhai has such a fan following. Last time when we had come for the store launch of PNG, there was so much chaos. There were thousands of people waiting to get a glimpse of him. You have to wait for Saturday to see the madness,” he says. Ask him the advantages of live performances in Indian cities, and he replies, “Here the crowd gets super excited. They want to come close to him, touch him, click pictures. I have never seen such madness for any other star.” He adds that on several occasions during shooting and public appearances, the situation has gone out of hands. “I have seen girls shouting and crying for him.”

At such concerts, Shera’s duty is to take into account the security of the actors and the crowd too. He says that looking at the massive crowd in Pimpri a few months ago, it was Salman who asked him to personally take care of the overall security. “He asked me to come to Pune well in advance for this. The stage has been well secured and the rest of the security staff has been guided too,” he adds.

Shera says managing the security of actors during a concert requires a lot of planning and co-ordination. “It’s a very tough job. People buy the tickets and watch the show but preparing the stage, managing the stars, rehearsals etc is quite a task,” says Shera, who like many others loves Salman’s Swag Se Swagat.

Shera has been working with Salman Khan for 21 years now. How has his association with the actor and his family changed him as a person? “Our relationship has changed because 21 years is a long period of time. They are like family. I just don’t take care of maalik (Salman) but his entire family. The whole family is my responsibility, be it daddy, mummy, sisters, Sohail bhai, Arbaaz bhai, Atul ji. Whenever they need me I am always there for them.”

Because his work requires a lot of travelling with Salman throughout the year, does he miss being with his family? Shera says he is used to such a lifestyle now. “Anyway I am single, so I don’t have any problem,” he laughs.
