Maniesh Paul, who is promoting his film Baa Baaa Black Sheep, talks about the film, its director and the Da-Bangg The Tour, Pune

Maniesh Paul is back to tickle our funny bone in Vishwas Paandya’s Baa Baaa Black Sheep. It’s been two years since the actor-host’s last Bollywood film (Tere Bin Laden 2) released. So, is he is giving hosting more prominence than acting? “Honestly, it depends on the kind of films that come my way. I don’t want to do films for the sake of it. I am happy with doing hosting otherwise. It’s not like if I don’t get films, I wouldn’t know what else to do. I am doing films, hosting, singing and anchoring,” Maniesh says.

He found the script quirky and interesting, he says. “When Vishwas told me that I have to play a contract killer, the thought sounded amazing.” He says the film also cast a motivational factor. “I thought to myself, ‘This is an offer I can’t refuse.’ Standing with Anupam Kher sir, Annu Kapoor and Kay Kay Menon is amazing. It’s been brilliant working with them because they are so good and such legends. Sharing screen with them is a dream come true. Anupam sir helped me a lot,” he says.

Even though Vishwas is a first time director, Maniesh is highly impressed with him. “I never had to share my inputs because he had beautifully handled everything. The way he understood the character and the film was amazing,” he quips.

Considering the title of the film is Baa Baaa Black Sheep, was he ever called a black sheep in the family? Manish replies, “Sometimes my relatives used to say — ‘He is  the black sheep. God knows what will he do’. But the audience has been really kind to me and here I am.”

The actor has finished shooting for two other films - Katha (remake) and Jatt & Juliet remake. But the makers of the films are yet to make an announcement about the release dates of the films. “I have already shot for the films and the producers are yet to get back to me,” he explains.

The actor says that he is very conscious about the scripts he selects because of his family audience. “Kids love me a lot, so I am careful about the fact that I do not do something which is not right. What if kids imitate me? Families shouldn’t think, ‘What is Maniesh doing’. I exactly do the kind of work my fans expect me to do,” he says.

Maniesh is also busy with the rehearsals of Da-Bangg The Tour, Pune, which will be held on March 24. The actor is not just hosting but also performing at the event. How different are the two experiences? “When I am hosting, I am in a different phase and make people dance to my tune. But as far as dancing is concerned, I am dancing to someone else’s tunes,” he says.

This is the first time Maniesh has collaborated with Salman and the excited actor says, “It’s been an amazing and fun experience working with Salman sir. He is an amazing actor, a superb dancer and an equally nice human being. We have performed in several cities and we will be visiting a lot more cities. Right now, we are rehearsing for Pune.”

There are several memorable moments while performing with Salman Khan, he says. “When Bhai and I are interacting on the stage, it’s not scripted. The conversation is impromptu,” he adds.

Ask which is the best city to perform with most energetic crowd and he replies, “We recently performed at Auckland, New Zealand; London has also been good. But I think no city can beat Pune. It’s got a young crowd. Nothing can beat the excitement of performing in front of our own people.”
