‘Everyone has contributed to Happu Singh’s popularity’

Yogesh Tripathi, aka Daroga Happu Singh, has become one of the most loved characters on television, thanks to his popular series Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! Owing to his popularity, &TV has launched a new series, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, which will focus on Happu Singh’s family life. “I am sure people will love this show too because it revolves around his family life and the issues he faces. All these years, I have been asked by my fans when will they get to see my family because my character keeps talking about his wife and 10 children in the show. But let me make it clear from the very beginning, this new series will be very different from Bhabiji...,” says the actor who plays the corrupt inspector in Bhabiji...

The actor says that the audience will get to see different aspects of Happu Singh’s personality in the new show. “There are funny stories with his wife, mother, father and children, and the audience will be able to relate to each one of them. The casting is also amazing. I am sure the audience will enjoy watching them,” says Yogesh adding that because of the team he never had to work much on his character (Happu Singh). “I have been working with the team since FIR, which aired on SAB TV. It was easy to express my thoughts with the team and we could work smoothly. Having said that, it was a combined effort while playing this character. I had told the team, ‘If we make the character serious, no one will enjoy it’. I had experimented with the body language, laughing style, expressions etc. Slowly these aspects clicked with the audience,” says Yogesh.

Happu Ki Ultan Paltan also stars Himani Shivpuri, Sharad Vyas and theatre actress Kamna Pathak. The actor can’t stop praising his co-stars. “Kamna has very good command over the language. Coming from a theatre background, she helps us a lot while enacting a scene as there’s a lot of give and take between us. I have also done plays with Himaniji so we are comfortable working together,” he says, adding that he doesn’t get time to do theatre any more because of his hectic schedule.

Yogesh says that when he had started working on Bhabiji... he had not imagined his character would become so popular. “Even the team hadn’t thought about it. I think, they utilised my talent pretty well. Everyone has contributed to Happu Singh’s popularity,” he says.
