It’s been a successful year for Guru Randhawa with back-to-back hits — Suit Suit (Hindi Medium), Lagdi Hai Thaai (Simran) and Ban Ja Rani (Tumhari Sulu). The talented Punjabi singer and song-writer says that it’s been an awesome year. “I have received lots of love from my fans all over the world and that is why I value the success of my work.”
His equation with the industry has changed post the success of his songs. “It has definitely become stronger and I’m so glad the industry is so accepting of my music,” he says.
Known for producing one hit single after another, Guru made a mark with singles like Patola, Outfit, Yaar Mod Do and Fashion.
The singer is currently promoting the TV premiere of Hansal Mehta’s Simran starring Kangana Ranaut. The film will be telecast on Sony MAX on January 12 at 8 pm. Though the film failed to create magic at the box-office, Guru is confident that it will reach out to more people through its TV premiere.
The singer says that it was great singing Lagdi Hai Thaai. “It had the Punjabi essence and suited well for the movie,” he adds.
Guru isn’t the first Punjabi singer who is making waves in Bollywood. Punjabi music and artists have been a rage in Bollywood and among the common people for decades. So, what works in favour of them and their music? “The music, the style, and the lyrics tend to beautifully connect with the lives of the people. The lyrics and the meaning behind them give an emotional touch to their lives,” he explains.
Ask him while singing a track, how important is it to give his own style to the song and he says, ‘very important’. “Your singing style must distinguish you from other singers. One should be able to hear a song and say, ‘That’s Guru Randhawa’s voice’. Also, these days, people have started following music more seriously and they choose to listen to an artist’s music in its true form,” says the singer who is currently working on two singles and Bollywood songs.
“My single High Rated Gabru will be soon seen in Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Nawabzaade. The year 2018 will have a lot in store for my fans,” he promises.
