36 killed, 13 injured in China bus crash

Beijing: A bus rammed into a tunnel on an expressway in China's northwestern Shaanxi province, killing at least 36 people and injuring 13 others. 

The accident occurred at around 11:34 pm (local time) when a mini bus carrying 49 people hit a wall of the Qinling tunnel on the Xi'an-Hanzhong Expressway, Shaanxi public security department was quoted as saying by state-run Xinhua news agency. 

The coach was en route to Luoyang City, China's central Henan Province, from Chengdu City, capital of the country's southwestern Sichuan Province. 
The coach has a designed carrying capacity of 51 people. 

The State Administration of Work Safety and the Ministry of Public Security have dispatched work teams respectively to oversee investigation and handling of the aftermath of the accident. 

The injured have been admitted to a hospital and rescue work is underway, it said.
