Yuvraj shows the Excellency Academy way; down BEG

PUNE: Yuvraj Walmiki led by example and powered Excellency Academy to the 7th Hussain Hockey Tournament 2018 title at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri, on Tuesday.

In a one-sided final, Excellency Academy scored a facile 4-1 win over Bombay Engineer Group, Khadki and bag their maiden title on debut.

Three-goals in a span of twenty-four minutes by former India international Yuvraj Walmiki dashed BEG’s hopes. Yuvraj opened his team and his account as early as the fouth minute and then added two more in the 10th and 24th minutes respectively.

At the breather, Excellence Academy led 3-0.

In the second session Excellence Academy added another goal via Vineet Shetty (29th) to make it 4-0.

BEG cut the lead via skipper Kanchan Rajbhar (40th).

Earlier in the third-place play-off, Krida Prabodhini stamped out Hockey United 6-2 with Talib Shah leading the way with a three-goal effort. Darmeshwar Pote (2 goals) and Venkatesh Kovehe rounded up the tally. For Hockey United Arvind Yadav. 

Meanwhile, the Hussain Puraskar 2018, given to individuals excelling in the promotion of sport at grassroot level on and off the field was given to: Nivruti Kalbhor (Pune; Wrestling and Kho Kho); Sanjay Kamble (Pune; Speed Skating) and Shyam Sunder Bhalerao (Aurangabad; Hockey).

RESULTS:
Final: Excellency Academy 4 (Yuvraj Walmiki 4th, 10th, 24th; Vineet Shetty 29th) bt Bombay Engineer Group, Khadki 1 (Kanchan Rajbhar 40th). 
3rd place: Krida Prabodhini 6 (Talib Shah 7th, 27th, 43rd; Venketesh Kovehe 19th; Darmeshwar Pote 45th, 49th) bt Hockey United: 2 (Arvind Yadav 36th, 37th). 
Inter School: Girls, U17 Final: Alegaonkar H.S 0(2) (Girija Nandanvan, Prajakta Mane) bt Anglo Urdu  0(1) (Ayesha Kazi).  
Individual Awards:
Best Goalkeeper: Dhananjay Singh (BEG, Khadki).
Best Defender: Rubein Kedari (Excellency Academy).
Best Half:  Prakash Mane (Hockey United)
Best Forward: Talib Saha (Krida Prabhodhini).
Player of the Tournament: Yuvraj Walmiki (Excellency Academy).
Highest Scorer: Yuvraj Walmiki Excellency Academy.
