New Delhi: Tamil Thalaivas captain Ajay Thakur basked in the glory of his vintage self when he turned the tables on No 2 team in Zone ‘B’ in final six seconds, leaving Bengal Warriors awestruck, in a league match of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 5 at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex here on Sunday.

There wouldn’t have been travesty of justice had the hard-working Chennai not won full points on Sunday evening as the bottom scrappers showed grit and determination to improve their standings.

There wouldn’t have been travesty of justice had the hard-working Chennai not won full points on Sunday evening as the bottom scrappers showed grit and determination to improve their standings.

So it was—33-32 in favour of Tamil Thalaivas just as a complacent Bengal let it slip in the final six seconds. The Chennai team had started on a bright note taking lead much against the expectations, but the power-packed Bengal Warriors with the likes of Maninder Singh, Surjeet Singh and Deepak Narwal soon clawed back and assumed a working lead in the second half.

In the second half, both the teams stayed close by before Maninder’s successful raid put Bengal 30-28 ahead. Thakur reduced the margin, but yet again after four empty raids Maninder made it 32-29.

It was Thakur all the way. First he made it 32-30 and after Maninder’s time-wasting empty raid that left only six seconds in the match, the captain rose to the occasion and raided to snatch two crucial points.
