Pune: Champion owner and President of the Owners and Trainers Association Delhi, Sunil Kumar Verma, has sought thorough probe into the wrongdoings at the Delhi Race Club, which is governed by the rules of the Royal Western India Turf Club.

As the Pune racing season begins and owners turn their focus on this monsoon destination, Verma, who for four consecutive years from 2011 to 2015 earned  the tag of ‘Champion Owner’ in Delhi, is seeking to cleanse the system that apparently been run by a senior stipe in collusion with many DRC officials.

Unfortunately, the RWITC has its hands full with so many issues at home, but it would be wise for the governing body to look into the malpractices at the DRC considering that the RWITC is the parent body.
“There are malpractices going on, racing is fixed and is done under the shadow of senior stipe R Manjunath,” Verma stated in his letter to the DRC Chairman JS Bedi.

“In 2012, Manjunath was deported from Delhi, and after working in Bengaluru, DRC in 2014 called for his Senior Stipe posts license, and though the RWITC rejected, it was later issued on a request,” alleged Verma.

What an owner wants

- The most important stake holders at a race club are the owners, but at DRC it is not so.
- Owners make huge investments but no consideration given to that.
- Least an owner looks forward to is continuous interaction with periodical meetings to address issues.
