Two-day sports meet to begin from today in Pune

Pune: Pune District Education Association (PDEA) has organised multiple sports events at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium, Balewadi-Mahalunge on December 29 and 30.

The teams and players are shortlisted from the zonal level competitions. In all, 11218 players were participated at zonal level competitions conducted by association while 4060 players are shortlisted for the district level competitions.

The teams and players are shortlisted from the zonal level competitions. In all, 11218 players were participated at zonal level competitions conducted by association while 4060 players are shortlisted for the district level competitions. 

The selected players will participate in events like Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, volleyball, Handball, athletics, wrestling, yoga, karate, weight-lifting, chess, judo martial arts, Taekwondo, Ball badminton, bodybuilding,Essay-writing ,Elocation, and Cultural programmes. 

“The motive of the event is to motivate and to provide a platform for the rural students. We hope to inculcate a sense among youth about physical strength and fitness,” Sandip Kadam, secretary of PDEA said on Wednesday.

195 students performed at State, 119 at National and 23 International levels from PDEA in last four years. At International level the participants were awarded with 15 gold medals, 2 silver and 06 bronze medals in the countries like Srilanka, Moscow, Singapore, Nepal, South Africa, Bangkok, and Thailand. 

The inauguration ceremony will be held at 10 am on December 29 at the hands of senior Film Director Jabbar Patel and will be attended by dignitaries from various fields like Ajit Pawar, NS Umrani, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Municipal commissioner Kunal Kumar and Police Commissioner Rashmi Shukla.

The event coincides with the 77th birthday of Former Union Agriculture Minister Hon. Sharad Pawar. 

The centre of the event focuses on to find the sports talent of the rural youth to give them a nationwide as well as international exposure.
