In a Group C encounter, Veritas’ leg spinner Sumit Dighe grabbed the tournament’s first five wicket haul to hand Maersk their first loss in two matches.

PUNE: Tata Consultancy Services and Veritas opened their respective campaigns with identical 75-run wins over Mindtree and Maersk Global Service Centre respectively in the 2nd Prithvi Edifice Cup 2018 Inter IT T20 Cricket Championship at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana.

In a Group C encounter, Veritas’ leg spinner Sumit Dighe grabbed the tournament’s first five wicket haul to hand Maersk their first loss in two matches.

Veritas aided by a second-wicket stand of 65 (45 balls) between Shailesh Santh (75) and Robin Chaudhary (29) notched up 163/6. Later, they bowled out Maersk for 139 in the 17th over.

Triggering Maersk’ collapse was Man-of-the-Match Sumit who had 5/12 to his credit. For Maersk, Shuvra Bhadhuri (33) and Vaibhav Mahadik (39) put on 61 runs for the opening wicket partnership which proved to be the only saving grace in an innings that had wickets fall periodically. -

In a Group-D encounter, TCS batsmen struck the right chord and systematically amassed 199/6, and then did well to contain the Mindtree batsmen who hardly got going barring Uday Galande (79) who provided a face-saving innings and prevent Mindtree from ending up with a humiliating defeat.

TCS got going when Gaurav Singh (34) and Anand Mishra put on 55 runs (34 balls) for the first-wicket. Gaurav’s exit led to Anand and Kanwarjeet Singh (26) take over and add 54 runs for the second-wicket.

Rahul Garg (24 n.o) and Soumya Rajan (28 n.o) had a quick 54-run (23 ball) seventh-wicket partnership going to help set TCS a sizable total. Midtree’s innings was a collapse, baring the 60-ball resistance by Uday Golande.

The loss was the second for Mindtree, who are virtually out of the tournament.
