Pune: City-born Tara Shah began the New Year claiming a career-first Under-15 girls’ singles title at the All India Sub Junior Ranking #Badminton Tournament 2018, Chandrashekhar Patil Badminton Stadium, Gulbarga, Karnataka.
In the summit clash, the Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy - NKBA trainee, seeded No.4 in the event, fought off the challenge from sixth seeded Anupama Upadhyaya (Uttaranchal) 21-17, 21-8 in a 28 minute dual.Tara’s Under-15 title comes close on the heels of signing off 2017 as India No. 1 in the midget section.
Last season (2017), the 12-year-old figured in four Under-15 All India Sub Junior Ranking tournaments apart from a successful run in the Under-13 section which had included claiming her first all India Under-13 title at Jaipur.
In the four Under-15 tourneys that Tara figured in she reached the last-4 at Goa (in October) and Jaipur (in August) respectively.
“Tara is hard working player and her rise has been systematic. She has done the Academy proud and her title-winning moment is huge,” said Nikhil Kanetkar, NKBA Director and Head Coach.
