Super Siddharth gives U Mumba win

CHENNAI: A look at the statistics box of the match between Jaipur Pink Panthers and U Mumba shows that Mumbai scored 22 raids points while Jaipur managed only 14. This super effort in raiding was enough for Mumbai as they outplayed Jaipur 39-32.

Trailing 13-15 at the end of half time, Mumbai raiders came out with a great effort to cage Panthers in last 10 minutes and scored their first win of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 6 at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday.

It was Pune born raider Siddharth Desai who scored 13 raid points to turn the match in the favour of U Mumba.

Jaipur, blessed with players like Anup Kumar, Deepak Hooda and Mohit Chillar could not provide much needed punch and trio ended the match with individual score of 4, 2 and 3 respectively.

Mumbai, who started the match with three Iranian players—Fazel Atrachali, Hadi Tajik and Abolfazl Maghsodlou—started on a slow note.

Except Fazel, other two players could not do much scoring in the initial moments of the game and they were substituted after their team got ‘All Out’ in the 10th minute.

Trailing 5-11, Mumbai outfit started to rebuild the game. Rohit Baliyan coming in for Abilfazl struck gold for Mumbai as he started to add flurry of touch points to team’s total.

Siddharth and Rohit first reduced the difference and then slowly started to take lead. Raiders found good support from defenders with captain Fazel and Surender Singh and Vinod Kumar adding 8 points to the team’s tally.

Inflicting ‘All Out’ in the 30th minute helped U Mumba to take control over the match. With score reading 22-23, U Mumba made no mistakes and not only passed Jaipur’s score but also forced ‘All Out’ second time in 38th minute to score win with 7 points.

Siddharth, who came into lime light in the first match against Pune, was phenomenal with his raids. He scored nine touch points and 4 bonus points.

U Mumba, who had drawn their first match, now has 8 points from 2 matches and share top spot in Zone A with Puneri Paltan, while Jaipur got one point from the lost match.
